Checkerboard Pizza — Restaurant in Troutdale

I was so excited to come try Checkboard pizza out with my family so we ordered two large pizzas & the nice person at the front told me it would be about 25 minutes, so I headed out to go wait outside and about 25 minutes later I went back in to ask for a cup of water but they asked for my name just to double check if my order was ready already but it wasn’t which was understandable, but the cook in the back yelled at us saying it will be another 25 min wait and to just wait for the message, I was surprised why he talked to us that way when I was in no rush of getting my order out I just was asking for a cup of water & as soon as I headed back out to wait the extra “25 minutes” I get a message saying my order was ready and when I headed back in he just gave us a dirty look as if we were bothering him. We really did enjoy the pizza but after the service we received for paying $73 we expected to not receive attitude from the cook...

Yikes. Where to start? Employee behind the counter taking orders can’t even properly convey what they’re trying to tell you, instead talking like mush mouth from Fat Albert. I had not even made my order before she started babbling about a menu items that weren’t going to be ready for almost half an hour, mind you I showed no interest in to begin with. So, thanks?

The default tip percentage is ridiculous so be mindful of that sneakily slid in percentage. The icing on the cake was when I asked for parmesan cheese, only to be told that would be 2.00 extra. I laughed in the cashiers face before some curmudgeon from the back showed up to tell me about how it was imported from some far away land and probably blessed by the pope or something… I tuned him out and left. I've never seen my New York born & raised husband so excited about a pizza (sorry, "a good slice of pie") since we moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2007, including the PDX area (since 2017). He proclaims it "real, NY style, 2-handed pizza" and I have no reason to doubt him. For my part, I can simply confirm the "Brooklyn" is incredibly, incredibly tasty. Combined score: 10 out of 5 stars (not sure if because it's 2x as good as the best, nostalgia value, or he's tallying points for both of us - but it's good pizza and if you are in Troutdale and hungry for good pizza, and especially NY -style pizza, you should definitely...
