I have been looking for the perfect apple fritter since moving up from Houston 5 years ago. Most places that sell Apple fritters have a very thick and very soft donut with apple filling inside. That is called an apple filled donut...not an apple fritter.
After moving to Blacklick a month ago, I stumbled upon this treasure. They take the pirate theme to heart with a treasure chest and a clasp as the donut box...it is awesome. But better yet AR the amazing apple fritters, like I grew up with in Seattle. It was not super thin, but had a slightly crunchy exterior, a soft and chewy center with small apple chunks and cinnamon. This is the real deal. I have lived in 10 states and travel as a consultant. This is the 3rd best apple fritter I have ever had, and the best in Columbus. If someone in Columbus has had better, let me know...I will do a taste test.
I loved these so much, I have brought them home to the family and everyone agrees. In fact, I have been back a few times in the last 2 months and tried a number of their other donuts. The old fashioned are not the old fashioned you have tried every where else with the crown shape and crispy tips with a glazed middle...they are regular non-glazed and plain cake donuts. The maple bars are maple bismarks...with a fluffy cream inside that makes your heart melt a little.
The second best donut they have is the buttermilk donut. This looks like a hunk of fried dough and ultimately that is exactly what it is. But it has just enough glaze on the crispy tips and the crevices are nice and tender. The textures and flavors are amazing. Probably my favorite buttermilk donuts anywhere...but I am not usually a fan of buttermilk. The buttermilk are a better version of Little Debbie's Donut Sticks.
If you have a sweet tooth and you are craving donuts...swing by this Jolly Pirate Donut Shop. Better than Duck Donuts, better than Krispy Kreme, better than the Original Krispy Kreme...and better than ... dare I say it ... Dunkin'.
Just save me some please. They run out of the good stuff and have very few staff...so you will have to be patient and you need to go there enough to know when things are restocked or at high stock levels. Don't go at 8PM...
Read moreI didn’t want much. Just a cup of coffee and a donut to get me started. As I was entering the establishment, there was a girl just getting to work, and another woman behind the counter. No greeting, no acknowledgment of my presence. The younger employee went straight to work folding boxes, and the woman behind the counter proceeded to consolidate the trays in the display case. I wanted a Boston cream and a coffee. I asked the lady behind the counter if they had Boston cream donuts, she didn’t say anything, just gave me an affirmative gesture and went back to work. I sat down at the counter and waited for someone to take my order. After sitting there a while, I realized that I wasn’t going to get served. I then left with nothing to show for my trouble, driving across town. Maybe they get enough business through phone or online orders, they don’t want or need walk in customers. This was my first visit, and my last. I don’t recommend...
Read moreSo fresh and tasty!! They do have a limit for how many customers are allowed in the shop at a time, as well as masking. The staff were super friendly and patient with me while I made my selections. One of my all time favorite things about Jolly Pirate's is the treasure chest donut box! It is just so cute and perfect. Donuts are fresh, and taste amazing! I wish I had a location closer BUT I do love being able to make it into a special trip. This location is super easy to get in and out of as it sits on the corner of Main St. and another road with traffic light access. Another fun tidbit is that this location has a drive through! Talk about...
