Mr. West's Asian Kitchen — Restaurant in Trussville

6/28/2023 update: up to 5 stars after my second visit. Decided to come back and dine in for lunch.

Garlic noodles (Thursday special) 9/10. Fresh and flavorful nice lunch-sized portion. Good spring rolls but I'm not a big fan of the sauce.

Kobe burger (Tuesday special) 8/10. Dang good burger. Only knock on it is that it's very heavy and slightly greasy, but this is a fantastic "treat" burger. Fries were crispy and lightly seasoned.

Dumplings app - crispy and loaded with flavor - salty sweet umami with a bit of heat and a very pleasant texture.

Wings - 10/10 absolutely killer. Wicked BBQ flavor with a bit of heat and creaminess in the sauce. Perfectly cooked with the meat falling off the bone with ease. I felt absolutely no shame lacking my fingers.

Overall I'm very glad I gave them a second chance. I will be back.

First visit:

Ordered pork belly and short rib Bao buns. Taste was pretty good, though the buns were very wet, almost soggy and there was absolutely no crunch to the pickles. Expected something better or a slightly more substantial portion for the price. The flavors were good though, so we may still come back to try the noodles or maybe that...

Update 11/16/23: Our third visit - best yet. We were early (5:00)because I skipped lunch and was starved. We ordered West Wings, Simple Salad, Pork Belly Bao Buns, Noodles and Nachos, along with a couple of cocktails. Everything was fantastic! They got our food to us about 10 minutes after we ordered. We devoured everything and left satisfied and happy. So happy to have Mr. West's in Trussville for when I'm nearby. Some of the best food you'll find in the area. 10/10!

We popped in for a quick dinner on the evening before Christmas eve. The place wasn't very busy, and we weren't sure what to expect. It's counter ordering with table delivery; disposable plates & cups. We got West wings, which were smoky & delicious. We also got spring rolls, which we both thought were good but not "wow". The Mongolian beef rice bowl was well cooked and seasoned, and just as good as the wings. The $5 old fashioned was very sweet, but worth the price. Overall, very good. The food is the star, but the vibe is cool too. Nicely decorated and interesting....

I've lived in Trussville for 10 years and have always been one that eats out way too often, that being said, My wife and I both agree that our current favorite restaurant is Mr. West's Asian Kitchen. After trying most everything on the menu, we have found our favorite combo. 1 order of Kalua Nachos (because if you don't order these it's only because you haven't had them yet), 2 orders of Spring Rolls (because my wife and I refuse to share and they are the best spring rolls we've ever tasted), 1 tempura fried shrimp bowl (what a great mix of flavors), and finally the spicy garlic noodles with chicken (they can come with different spice levels at times depending on who is cooking so if you are not a fan of heat I would let them know when ordering).
