Someone should tell this place they are not in the foothills of Tucson! This is another overpriced restaurant that is close to the foothills, but it's not IN the foothills. It is nearly central, with all the homeless and drugs problems that have surfaced in the area the past few years. But Doughbirds seems to think they can offer a $20 burger and people are ok with it. Here's why you shouldn't be ok with it: besides the surrounding area being less than desirable, it is a typical open-air concept which translates to very noisy, even when it is not very busy. The bar stools are brand new and comfortable, which you will appreciate when you wait as long as we did. There were three people behind the bar, one girl was counting money, so we assumed she was closing out. The other two people wearing aprons were washing glasses, so we assumed they were barbacks. We waited for over 5 minutes and were still not acknowledged, so I asked loudly for a menu from one of the barbacks. She brought us a menu and said "my bad", as if that was professional, but still didn't even take our drink order. She then asked the other customers at the bar how their food was- so I'm assuming she was a bartender and not just a bar back. Looking at the menu, we had some questions, mostly curious about what specific style of pizza they boasted. She never came back and the other staff behind the bar never bothered to take our order. We sat there for over 20 minutes, and finally walked out. The prices are overinflated and no food is worth being ignored by staff like we were. Fox Restaurant Concepts should stop trying to expand into new restaurants, focus on training staff properly and adjusting their prices for the area they find just because the property is cheap. No one wants to eat a $20 burger to be ignored by waitstaff in a restaurant as loud as Peter Piper. Spend your money on a true local business with a better atmosphere (for a $20 burger, I rather go to King Fisher where the atmosphere is perfect and the staff there wait on you hand a foot). No one is doing Doughbirds a favor by eating there, which is how the staff makes you feel. The whole experience was so bad, I wouldn't even give it a...
Read moreI cannot say enough nice things about this place. First of all, they are pet friendly as long as you are sitting outside. The outside area faces west, but is covered by an awning and has misters. We went during Sonoran Restaurant Week which gave each of us a chance to try a bunch of different things. Let me tell you, the food is WONDERFUL! We had the shishitos and wings as a starter. The shishitos were cooked perfectly the sauce on the side I want to slather on everything. My husband is a wing and pizza snob and said the buffalo wings were one of his favorites in Tucson. Now onto the pizza….it was the aviator pizza and it was sooo good. Coming from NJ, it has been devastating trying to find a pizza that is similar to back east and this was comparable! We also had the prime rib dip which was good as well, but some bites were a little heavy on the horseradish sauce so if you are not a fan of horseradish order it on the side. Now onto dessert….my husband LOVES lemon meringue so he ordered that and he said he liked the lemon custard, but he felt the meringue was too marshmallowy and he does not like marshmallows. I liked it. But the perfect ending to the meal, was my dessert…the butterscotch cake. You don’t know me, but I am death by chocolate everything, but since our prix fix menu came with dessert, I picked the butterscotch and it was the most phenomenal cake I have had in a long time. It was not overly sweet ( I hate really sweet) and with he vanilla bean ice cream on top, it was perfection.
That was just the food, but let me tell you about the staff. We always sit at the bar and our bartender, Austin, was so nice and helpful about recommendations. I overheard some other wait staff and they were all very kind and helpful with patrons. This is one of our favorite restaurants so far and this will be the place we take all of our out-of-towners....
Read more(1st Review) Average food and service. Atmosphere is nice and the design inside is great. Huge pet peeve of mine, is when a restaurant advertises a happy hour (it’s printed on the menu, it’s printed in the receipt, it’s on their online material) but they exclude the whole restaurant from happy hour deals, and tell you after the fact that it only applies to one annoying little section in the bar. It’s cheap, icky, and a scam because it’s false advertising. Fox Restaurants AKA the Cheesecake Factory owners should be classier than that.
The Brussel sprouts were delicious. The burger was boring and predictable, but tasted fine. The BBQ pizza was good, but nothing amazing, very crunchy bordering on hard crust.
Service was fine overall. We felt rushed to leave though, and a check was delivered before we asked. We wanted to order desert still. The desert was fine.
Overall, not my favorite. Might try again in a few months. We’ll see.
(2nd Review) Wow… again, very underwhelmed by this place. The portions on a Caesar salad were laughable, it was about the size of a side salad, maybe just a tad bigger, $14 for lettuce, dressing, and a little bit of Parmesan cheese? Lol. Also got a prime rib dip sandwich, very small amount of meat, maybe 2.5 or 3 ounces. Lastly, the fact that they charge a $1 for a side of ranch is a joke. I asked for a side of ranch, but they brought two, and then charged me for two even though I asked for one. It’s so tacky… is the Cheescake Factory(the owners of doughbird) really hurting that bad for money??
Again, the check was delivered before we asked for it. Guess I’m not getting dessert this time. One other thing, a dirty vodka martini was delivered without olives. That’s the most basic garnish in the world, on such a well known drink. How do you...
