My girlfriend and I had high hopes for our visit to Flower Child, a newer restaurant we'd heard buzz about, but our experience left us feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.
The first letdown came when we ordered our dishes - the food was considerably expensive for what we received. Portion sizes were on the smaller side, making the cost hard to justify. Unfortunately, the unique flavor profiles of the dishes did little to make up for this. I ordered the tofu with mac and cheese, and corn and quinoa as sides, but the combination turned out to be an odd mix of acidic and starchy flavors. While the tofu was well-prepared, the sides lacked the complementary flavors I had hoped for.
My girlfriend ordered the yakisoba noodles, but she couldn't even finish her dish, indicating that it fell short of her expectations. It was a disappointment considering the restaurant's reputation and our anticipation.
Adding to our disappointment was the service we received from the staff. The ordering system, which required customers to order and pay at the counter before seating themselves, was a surprise. We understand that this approach has become common in many places, but we were taken aback by also being asked to tip before any service had been provided that would justify it.
On a more positive note, the restaurant did have a pleasant atmosphere and stylish decor. However, this alone couldn't compensate for our overall dining experience.
In the end, Flower Child left us feeling that it didn't quite live up to its hype. While the ambiance and style were noteworthy, the high prices, underwhelming dishes, and the tipping request left us disappointed. We had hoped for more, but our visit to Flower Child didn't quite meet our...
Read moreWe just had our first meal at Flower Child. I stress "first meal" because we will absolutely go back. There were only a few people in line before us. The ordering process was smooth and the person behind the counter answered the questions we had. Prior to ordering a server came by and told us our number and had a table set aside for us before we even ordered. I had the Bird is the Word wrap and also ordered a side of Sichuan Green Beans and Snap Peas. My husband, a vegetarian, ordered the Glow Bowl with tofu. We both ordered the Cherry Sangria. Sangria was excellent. It was not too sweet and you could taste the cherry. The serving was a surprisingly large size. The wrap was really good. The chicken was very moist, which is not always the case when ordering chicken. The green beans and snap peas were excellent. The sauce they were in was slightly sweet and really tasty. Negatives. As others have said, it was a bit pricey, although from what we have seen lately when we go out, not outrageously so. It was loud. Very high ceiling with no baffling to cut the noise. Next time we will sit outside, although as we left, we looked for misters and didn't see any. That would make it tough to eat outside in the Tucson heat. Overall, looking forward to our next visit and trying something else on the menu. This is an excellent addition to the Tucson...
Read moreI don’t see the dance same staff each time, so I don’t think they realize that I stop here on my way to the airport whenever I’m in town for work.
For my most recent visit, I placed my order online instead of in-store. My options were to call in (wasn’t sure how busy there were), use Toaster (unfamiliar and couldn’t confidently use), or use DoorDash. I placed my order as a pick up with DoorDash. They clearly weren’t paying attention and treated me as a DoorDash driver. For example, when I asked to add a muffin to my order, they asked if I wanted “for here or to-go”. Clearly, I wanted it with the rest of my order. They already told me that the wait would be less than five minutes. Then, they just handed the muffin to me instead of putting it in the bag with the rest of my food. Lastly, there were three other people waiting for their order. Of the four of us waiting, they only asked the other female if she wanted flatware. (It’s possible she ordered in-store.) They didn’t bother asking me if I needed a set, and the staff tamper proof sealed my bag before handing my food to me. I ripped it open, checked for flatware, and asked the staff at the counter for a set. They seemed confused and shocked that I broke the seal.
Overall, it was a weird experience. I just want them to be aware and treat all...
