Not celiac-friendly!
I dislike writing less-than-great reviews but I think folks need to be aware of the issues with their gluten free menu... They have a wonderful gluten free menu with lots of options - I was so excited to come here! But upon trying to order, I find out that it's a shared cooktop and fryer, so not celiac safe and not safe for a gluten allergy. I will give kudos to the staff member though that talked to me about this - they were knowledgeable and informed me about the shared equipment without additional prompting (which is refreshing for someone with an allergy - iykyk). The employee also offered an alternative menu item that could be made without cross contamination and even checked the protein powder to make sure it was gluten free. Super appreciate this employee being awesome. I ended up getting a smoothie which was great - overpriced in my opinion but very tasty.
I'm giving three stars because I was so excited to try Midtown since they had such a great gluten free menu, but was pretty disappointed that it seems to be a 'fad' gluten free menu and not a menu for someone who actually needs to be gluten free due to allergies. If I find out they actually are allergy safe (no shared surfaces/fryers), or update their kitchen to be allergy safe, I'd totally go again and try out their food - the food my dining companions got looked amazing! So if you have a gluten allergy, make the best choice for you, but if you don't, probably give them a try for yourself! :)
The only other thing I'll mention is it felt more like a restaurant with their wait time for food to come to the table, less like a deli/market where the food tends to come out faster (though to be fair I'll also mention they seemed to have a ton of takeout orders too so I'm sure that slowed the kitchen...
Read moreMidtown Deli in Tucson is hands down the best vegan restaurant we’ve ever encountered— and we’ve been to many across the U.S. During our two-week trip to Tucson, we found ourselves stopping by at least 5+ times because we couldn’t get enough of their incredible dishes.
The Crunch Wrap is a must-try— it’s absolutely delicious, and the Rueben is a standout as well. Our toddler even cleaned her plate of the Kids Nuggets, which speaks volumes! We also loved the seasonal burger (available for October and November)— it was packed with flavor. The breakfast burrito, kids grilled cheese, and the Sammie on both bagel and English muffin were all fantastic. The hotdogs and black bean patties are also super delicious! My carnivore mother-n-law said she was not interested in eating vegan, and how about she asked to go back to Midtown for more after she had the crunch wrap- just saying 😉
And let’s talk about the cookies— the Campfire Cookies are simply the best we’ve ever had! Beyond the food, the staff at Midtown Deli are some of the friendliest people we met during our time in Tucson, always welcoming and warm.
They also carry unique grocery items, including oatmilk cheese whiz (which was so tasty— though we wish they offered small crackers to pair with it), but it worked perfectly with some crispy jalapeño chips we picked up. Whether you’re vegan or not, Midtown Deli is an absolute gem and a must-visit in Tucson!
I should have taken more photos!! Oh, and get the loaded fries (doesn’t matter which ones)!!
And HUGE SHOUT OUT to Kari for taking such great care of us when we brought in some friends from KY that met us out in AZ🥰🌵 They raved about the...
Read more08/01 Update: I Read the response and it's not quite what happened. You obviously have the wrong person. I am not a mother-in-law to anyone with a vegan business or etc. Sounds like you are trying to make me out to be someone else. Secondly this is the only review I posted besides the one I tagged you in on Instagram. I was NEVER offered anything free and you actually BLOCKED my page on Instagram. For a restaurant to be combative and suggest that I am telling a lie shows just what type of establishment you run. And as you see I have been reviewing places for quite a while now and have no need to be facetious or mean towards anyone. I simply state the FACTS of what I eat, how my visit went and whether or not I would return. Thank You
We Went in yesterday ordered the bulgogi and Philly fries. As we Had to wait over 40 minutes for our food we noticed that all the patrons that came in were greeted and treated like extended members of the family. Not once did the staff try to accommodate us while we waited. Yet, the patrons that came in after us were offered a drink and had things brought to their table as they waited for their orders. Now it doesn’t take a rocket science to see that all YT patrons were treated remarkably while us black women were ignored. When we politely brought this to the managers attention especially after receiving our food without plastic wear or even in a to go bag as the other patrons she simply shrugged us off. Then both orders were mediocre at best. After speaking with others we’re told that this is typical behavior of this...
