I am sooooo disappointed. O was hoping for a good dinner...... the owner xharged me $7.21 more than he should have!
BEWARE. If you look at the one AND two star reviews on Yelp, you'll come to find that the owner likes to overcharge people. THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH IT. If you do go, USE CASH, but spare yourself the trouble of eating bland food from a man who LACKS INTEGRITY.
Zemams and Cafe Desta have better tasting food, and the owners are much politer than the man here although the lady was nice. After the misunderstanding i had with the size of my order, the owner clearly became annoyed and a bit aggressive (throwing the receipt aggressively as well as his style of communicating) after i mentioned i had wanted a large individíal size dish with berbere chicken and 2 veggie sides. The manner of ordering options/ style here is different compared to Cafe Desta and Zemams which is understandable (they are separate restaurants), and i did mention to the owner it was my 1st time had stepping in here and I had never ordered from this location. The owner here was, to my surprise and my dismay, very rude. The red lentils were all right. The injera was cold and not teff. I am really shocked at the rudeness and aggression displayed by the owner based on a misunderstood where i realized the sized I ordered was wrong which was $36 and not $12. I wanted to leave and not order at all, but i thought maybe with covid things must be tough for a local restaurant family business, and i like to try new restaurants. I was also embarrassed. Honestly, I should have just thanked him and walked out, but i decided to give this place a shot. I didnt miss anything because Zemams has the best flavor in Ethiopian food in Tucson by far. The food here at queen sheeba needed more spice, so i kept adding mitmita while i ate it. Cafe Desta is great too with varied drink options, and usually, a rasberry tart for dessert.
In short, very...
Read moreSheba is my new queen! What a culinary treat in the heart of Tucson. Before you reach the restaurant door, the aromas of delectable spices draw you in. The owner, chef, and greeter extends a warm welcome onto a quaint, clean and cozy dining area. Weldlay's American Dream story is printed on a plaque as well as the country of origin from which he hails. A small neighboring country to Ethiopia, Eritrean, shares customs and similar dishes. We tried the delicious (non) spicy Chicken Salad. Over a bed of yellow rice, chicken, tomatoes, red onions, green peppers and potatoes in a delicate, yet flavorful sauce/dressing and fresh avocado slices liberally layered over all. The neighboring table, a Mother and daughter ordered a traditional plate of a large tortilla like base with vegetarian toppings spread around it, much like a pizza. A plate of 'bread was brought out as the utensils to scoop up one or many of the toppings. The daughter is visiting Tucson after over a year with the Peace Corps in the Eritrean, speaking fluently to the owner in his native tongue. She says the food is authentic. This place is a must try, lots if vegetarian options and gluten...
Read moreAn awesome place to eat! Similar, but better in my opinion than Ethiopian cuisine. Be sure and try the Ga'at; the closest way to describe it is a deconstructed red corn tamale. One order is enough for four. It's the only dish that's served with forks, everything else comes family style with pieces of flat, pancake-y bread that you use as a utensil. Everything here is gluten-free including the dessert "Sweetbread" that you would swear had wheat flour in it. My friend hasn't had bread in five years because of a gluten allergy and she was in absolute heaven. They will make the food to your level of spiciness and at "medium" nothing was too hot. A great place to eat for vegetarians and vegans. Lentils and other legumes are expertly seasoned as are the chicken, beef, and lamb dishes. I can't figure out how the cabbage was prepared but it was the best I've ever had. We got a vegetarian combo platter and a meat combo platter and with the aforementioned ga'at it was more than enough for four people. The house-made iced tea is a black spiced with cardamom, cloves and cinnamon. We will certainly be going back frequently. I can't recommend Queen Sheba...
