Took The Kid to Blue Coast today for a Spring Break lunch w Dad. We'd scouted out the three main crab joints, and landed on this one, mainly due to ratings and proximity. The outside is quirky in a good kinda way, having renovated a location previously occupied by a restaurant offering a lot of wild game dishes. Can't recall the name, but it was something like "Montana Mike's" or something. So the interior that used to be very mountain lodge-y feeling now feels very much like a wharf. Good job that. We arrived right at opening time, and were promptly seated. In fact, prompt was the word of the day, as everything happened like clockwork. Our server, Taylor (rock star, right there) immediately got our drinks and a starter order of calamari. While we briefly pondered the menu, the drinks arrived, and right behind them, our calamari. Not the best calamari I've ever had, but still good. A little overcooked, especially the tentacles, but we still did it justice. Given the venue, we just kept it simple and went with 1 lb of snow crab legs, 1 lb of shrimp (no head, per The Kid's instructions), a side of corn and french fries. I didn't notice the boil came with potatoes and corn, so I ended up eating all 5 mini ears of corn. And they were freaking great. I loved them. Since The Kid wasn't adept at dealing with crab legs, I started her on some shrimp while I extracted some crabby goodness for her. Both meats had the garlic butter w seasoning option, mild spice, and it was a perfect call. Just enough spice to get a good flavor, and not hot at all. The crab legs were well cooked and plentiful. I probably could have gone another half pound, but that's just because I'm a pig. The Kid probably got 3/4 of the crab and half the shrimp, but I batted cleanup and handled the corn and potatoes. And those potatoes..... cooked PERFECTLY. I'm by no means a vegetarian but I literally would have been satisfied with just potatoes and corn. They were that good. Taylor kept tabs on us without intruding and was a model for most other servers to emulate. After the dust settled and the buttery hands and faces were cleaned off (yeah, you're gonna get it on you... embrace it), we decided we had enjoyed a really freakin good meal. Something you don't hear me say very often. The place isn't cheap. It's seafood. Specifically crab legs. Lunch for the two of us was just south of $90, including a well earned tip for Taylor, but it was an occasion, not just a meal, so I had no problems with it. The interior looked clean enough. I saw nothing to raise any red flags with me, and neither of us visited the restrooms, so I got nothing there. Another reviewer who seemed to fixate on the restrooms left several pictures, and sure, cleanliness is certainly a concern, but let's face it... people can be pigs, and it's tough for a place to stay on top of things like that all the time.
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Good environment, great food,...
Read moreWe ordered fresh raw oysters and fried calamari as appetizers but our server also wanted our main meal to be ordered at the same time. We got the appetizers first and 5 minutes later our main course arrived. We did not have enough room on the table and not able to finish the appetizers so we did our best to both so our main meal would not get cold as we finished the appetizers. Thats why appetizers need to be ordered SEPARATELY!!! Server can just write down 1 of 2 tickets. So they know how to charge accordingly. The amount of food that we received was okay but the price for everything was NOT WORTH THE PRICE!!! We should be served it bigger plates like a silver bucket or huge bowl! My lobster tail was not cut properly and the oysters were not prepped properly. The flavor we chose was juicy special and that was great. The hot was not that hot either you can taste the Cajun and cayenne pepper. I would suggest a jalapeño or chili pepper to make the hot or extra hot actually work. There was some seasoning that was over powering at some sections and way too much butter! The taste was okay. There should have been more corn and potatoes to help soak up the rest but we both only got 1 corn and 2 potatoes. I cut my potatoe into for quarters and that helped a lot. I would suggest they start serving some time of SLICED BREAD OR GARLIC BREAD to help out with all that butter and seasoning. Or even serve it while waiting!!! The amount of shrimp was perfect and the crab legs was great too but the lobster tail was not prepped correctly. It needs to be cut in the middle and go all the way thru to the tail. Our server was horrible. She needs training on customer service. First visit should be to introduce herself and ask us for drinks and make sure we have everything on the table. She didn't know what green lime was and had to ask if they carried that. She checked on us 2 times and asked me if the calamari arrived yet while watching me eat the calamari and then 2nd time was asking if I needed help opening the bag of food while still eating appetizers. This place has a lot of potential but the price on the food needs to drop down because it does not match with the amount of food and quality being served. Too little for too much cost and bad customer service! It should be 2 stars but the fresh oysters and the amount of shrimp helped out for 3 star rating.. most definitely please train...
Read moreNightmare!!!!!This was my husband and daughters favorite place to eat. They have progressively gone downhill. We always order extra potatoes and sauce. They sure charged for it, but didn't add the sauce and gave us 2 of the 12 potatoes we ordered. Instead of all the meat they gave some meat and 8 ears of corn. When we showed them it was incorrect she took it back and then brought the food minus all the corn back and said it was correct. Then we went over it all again and they seen that the potatoes and sauce were definitely missing but continued to argue that all the meat that was supposed to be there was there. Asked them to remake it all since my fried shrimp basket is getting cold waiting for them to fix the other 2's order and they refused. Said they would bring potatoes and sauce back. Brought back 2 plain potatoes and bowl of sauce back. Meanwhile still all the other food is getting cold. Take that back to boil the 8 missing potatoes in the sauce. Food still getting cold. Waitress finally come back with missing stuff minus his missing meat. Tells us to enjoy. Enjoy my now ice cold shrimp and fries. Says they will do a discount. Brings me a receipt. No discount. Why? Because my husband said he didn't care about the discount was just asking them to fix his order the correct way that he wasn't just trying to get a discount when she brought it up early. She takes it to find out about a discount. They took off a whole $5. She said the kitchen staff never gets a break and they are there every day and even though she put it in correct they looked very sleepy today. She doesn't know what happened. I then asked to talk to the manager and was like do you not care about losing customers who are here weekly and you will be losing $100 a week? They said well they did fix it eventually right? I said and what about our food getting cold while you did that and all the arguing that took place to get there. Short and simple they are not friendly management and do not care about having happy customers at all. This is not the way to conduct business and we will never go back. Find somewhere else that cares about their customers. The food isn't worth the...
