I really wanted to like this restaurant but I just can't do it. We visited around middle to late 2024 and the food was mediocre. Since it was my first time, I was confused by the "are you going to have all you can eat" question. Yes, it says all you can eat on the outside of the restaurant but that was not my goal here. But being asked that before I sit down is kind of off putting. So, being a little confused, and they were confused at my confusion, they essentially said ok, we will seat you with both menus. So, once seated and our waitperson greeted us and asked if we were having all you can eat to which we replied we have never been here and don't know how it works. Basically, it's $36 dollars for the all you can eat menu which has no prices but is essentially the same as the paper take out menu which is for those that don't want all you can eat. We opted for non-all-you-can-eat. I cannot remember exactly what I ordered but I do remember I did order a couple of sushi and nigiri items and I will say that it was definitely not fresh fish. I'm no expert but it was just not good. There are a lot of the bigger rolls on the menu but I did stick to the simpler ones, similar to what I get elsewhere. I think I may have also ordered an entrée but it was forgettable because I cannot remember what it was. Well, fast forward to 1/13/25 and it was the exact same situation but we were a bit more familiar now. Still, the waiter was kind of confused because he automatically assumed we wanted the all you can eat. Again, nope. So, we all ordered and our food came out a weird times and because we were not an all you can eat table we were for the most part ignored. I ordered the teriyaki entrée and wow, that was just awful...basically, reheated in a microwave frozen chicken breast. It likely never saw an actual grill which is typically where these are prepared. No char at all on it. Also, oddly, they brought it out without rice. I never said I did not want rice. Again, all the food came out at random times like you would get your entrée and then later get your salad. Or a bowl of rice would come out before any food would come out. Many restaurants are really bad at pacing how food is brought to the table that can be very irritating. Clearly, they want tables to order all you can eat because that is how things appear to work and I would assume allows for greater profit. I would suggest that if a table does not do all you can eat, maybe treat it that way and serve food like a regular restaurant. Or, just change to all you can eat only which would eliminate the confusion and potentially prevent the need to train employees how to work in a restaurant. None of this changes the fact that the food is not great to mediocre. Even if the service was top notch, the food would just make the experience still not great. I will say that for me, eating at a restaurant is an experience. Good food and good service = good experience. That said, if the service is not great but the food is mind bogglingly good, I will overlook bad service but that happens rarely. I guess if you are looking for large quantities of not good to mediocre food, this restaurant is for you. I for one will not be...
Read moreWent here for the third time last night and might be my last time. I did the all you can eat like the past two times. The food quality is definitely decreasing everytime. It’s not like I’m constantly ordering lots of sashimi or any premium items. I started out with a few appetizers such as mixed tempura, seaweed salad and chicken yakitori. I also order the Mizu ramen. The ramen came out missing chasu pork and corn kernels. Everyone knows the chasu is one of the best part of the ramen. For them to miss it is already a point deduction but mistake happens especially if it’s busy. I informed my waiter and he brought over the manager of the night. It was weird to me how they approached me like what do you mean by missing. I had to then showed them on the menu that it clearly stated the Mizu ramen came with noodles, chasu pork, nori, corn kernels, bamboo shoots, fish cakes and green onion. I don’t know why I had to do that when they’re suppose to know their own menu. The manager strongly stated that they don’t have the corn. The corn truthfully doesn’t matter to me but staff should inform customers if something is out because you can’t assume customers preferences. Back to my issue, the corn was not served because it was out but the chasu pork wasn’t out. Why wasn’t it served in my bowl? The manager went and brought out two pieces of cold chasu. I said thank you. This is where I really think he was trolling me. He then asked if I would like to have it warmed up. I asked him if it’s suppose to be warmed up? He responded with “of course”. 🤔 I’m confused. Why did he even brought it out cold? I tried to smile it off still being polite saying please and thank you throughout the whole dinner. I ordered a couple of fried rice. I know some restaurants precook their fried rice with soy sauce and seasoning and then toss it through the wok before serving. The last fried rice I was served tasted and smelled like it was straight out from the rice warmer. I’m far from being a food expert but I definitely don’t look like I haven’t ate. There were other small issues but after the ramen incident, I didn’t want anyone to spit in my food.
In conclusion, the food preparation is lacking which causes the food quality to decrease. The male manager there certainly needs to reevaluate his management skill. I wonder how he deals with bigger issues than mine.
The only thing that hasn’t changed for me was the service from the waiters. They have always been kind and attentive. They always do their best to accommodate with any of my special requests such as sauce on the side or no teriyaki on my salmon. I had a different waiter each time and they’ve all...
Read moreTonight saw me flying solo for dinner, so I took the opportunity to visit Mizu, and I'm so very glad I did. There's a lot of hubbub about the all you can eat, but let me clarify.... it's all you can eat of EVERYTHING on the menu... You wanna slam fried calamari all night long? Go for it. Wanna graze on salads and soups all night long? You do you. Once my (outstanding) server got me sqared away on the concept, I waded in. Started with an order of shu mai and fried calamari. The shu mai are downright tiny, but that's okay, since you don't want to tank up on those anyway. They were quite good and were a great start. The fried calamari was some of the better I've had around town. Next up were a couple orders of shashimi, yellowtail and shrimp. Sounds like a lot, but in reality was a couple small (but excellent) bites of each. Now I was ready for the main course. Started with a Shogun roll and a Rising Phoenix roll. The Shogun was good, but the Phoenix was a shade better. Each of these rolls were 8 pieces. Feeling like I still had some room to manuever, I went with the Alaska Beauty roll, which is is packed with a lot of seafood and topped with fresh fish. This roll was also 8 pieces. Seeing the end in sight, but knowing I had a little room to work with, I asked for a Yummy roll and a Mizu roll to wind down my evening. Hands down the Yummy roll was the winner. One of the best rolls I've had in a long time. The Mizu roll was kind of a hot mess in the best possible way. Service was outstanding in all respects. All said and done, the bill ran to $50 with a generous and well earned gratuity. Not something I do very often, but for the occasional treat, Mizu is a...
