At last! We had an opportunity to come and see and taste what this place is all about. For months now I had been driving by and thinking that I needed to stop by one of these days and give it a try. The smell of wood burning from a distance was already making me feel hungry. You know what they say "smells ring bells" The atmosphere from a distance draws you in. It feels exciting and fun. After we got seated, they brought us chips and "salsas" three different ones! Plus I asked for a habanero one. One thing that I always look for is a simple menu. A simple menu equals to a kitchen staff that only has fewer items to prepare and cook; easier to remember and they can focus on cooking with quality. Unlike restaurants that think that because they have a huge menu they can offer better food. I don't think so, in my experience, restaurants waste food and it is overwhelming for the staff to keep up with so many dishes they hardly ever cook. Quality goes down fast. We also ordered a drink for the menu. I will say, the drink was okay. There was more ice than anything else, the taste of the drink was bland and I could barely taste the alcohol in it. The drink felt unbalanced. For the 14+ bucks I felt it was not worth it. Plain and simple. I ordered the pork belly tacos and my wife ordered the Oaxaca Bowl. While I waited for the food I went to check out the restrooms. They were clean and nicely decorated. As I walked back and forth, the staff seemed happy to be here and people overall looked like they were having a good time. When our food got to our table, we had already eaten 2 baskets of chips and salsa. My tacos were delicious. The corn cup was also delicious. My wife's food had an elegant presentation. We both enjoyed our food.
Here are some observations: • the salsas that come with the chips, they appear different but in flavor they taste like something is missing and I don't mean heat or anything like that. The flavor feels bland. •maybe it was me or a one off from your staff but the mixed drink was just not there. It tasted bland too. There was no kick to it.
The rest was just what we had been expecting. You guys have a very knowledgeable staff and are friendly too. Thank you for...
Read moreMy Aunt had been looking forward to visiting here for her Birthday but sadly, we had a terrible experience. Our waitress had no clue what was in a margarita and had to go ask the bartender twice details. Unfortunately the Margarita's were way to sweet & the smallest glasses I have ever seen. Also when a customer says no salt, it doesn't mean add salt & Tajín.
There is no mention on the very small menu that the Pork Belly isn't ready till 3 pm, that is why there is something called a lunch menu. We ordered two street tacos but they weren't worth the money. I have lived in Southern California for 40 years and have never been served a corn Street Taco with one corn tortilla OR one smaller than my hand which wasn't $2.00 or less. The fish taco is also deep fried, which again isn't listed on the menu.
The biggest issues was the Clayuda; the menu states Refried Beans, Chorizo, Carne Asada, Oaxaca Queso BUT apparently it also comes with cilantro, jalapenos and onions. There is no mention on the menu of those three items were included. It also doesn't state exactly what it is. We assumed it was a dip due to the placement on the menu. Apparently it was a Mexican pizza which couldn't be held because there weren't two flower tortillas under it to build a foundation. The one tortilla with all of the items listed above was also burned to a crisp on the edges and the cheese wasn't properly melted. I'm honestly not sure if Oaxaca is supposed to melt 🤷🏼♀️.
We had mentioned to the waitress multiple times because it was my aunt's birthday but no one sang us happy birthday or offer us dessert options even after we spoke with the manager and she comped the Clayuda. I would advise finding a restaurant that takes people's potential allergies, lists all items on each item and all employees understand the menu.
Maybe it's time to retrain your day staff about what is actually on your menu including when pork belly is available & how your mixed...
Read moreI am a FREQUENT FLYER of this establishment! First visit was Friday, March 22 (2024) and I was hooked ever since, I’ve been back at LEAST 3 more times. I always go with a friend and we always have good experiences. I enjoy the setting, very non-traditional bar with plenty of seating and visible kitchen service, it works! The host is usually there and welcoming. The bartenders are always fun, knowledgeable and encouraging. I’ve also sat on their patio a few times and received great service too! I’ve had nearly ALL their tacos and I’m never disappointed, just depends on what you want, they’re all delicious and garnished wonderfully. The food always comes with chips and three (3) dipping sauces; white, pink and green (I don’t know the specific names I just say the colors) but you gotta ask for the other two. The Habanero (orange) and the Ahi (merrón) are HOT but amazing too! I have to have all of them with whatever drink I order, which is my second favorite part of this spot. The drinks are superb! They have a wonderful happy hour and I enjoy the Puerta Vallarta or the Paloma from the Happy Hour menu but you can’t go wrong with ANY of their Margaritas they have. I have lots of good things to say about this place but you have to experience it for yourself. Each day they have a different happy hour special that lasts all day, no excuses! It gets my stamp...
