Stopped in for a coffee at Double Shot. Wow! What a stunning coffee shop. The ambiance was divine. The owner shipped an Amish barn piece by piece to Tulsa and had it reassembled and turned into a coffee shop. The wooden beams are gorgeous.
It's super spacious, with an upstairs seating area as well. There is a roasting area in the back with a glass viewing window. They were roasting when we got there. The smell is so lovely.
The friendly and helpful staff let us know that all the coffee is roasted fresh daily, they roast it and brew it that very same day.
All the baked goods are baked that morning on site. They looked delicious but I didn't try one.
Here's the best past, the lattes. A small comes with 2 espresso shots and a large comes with 4. That's a generous amount of shots for those sizes. I could only drink half of my small cause I was buzzing.
The flavor was so unique. From the first sip it tasted fantastic. I asked for sugar free vanilla sweetener and was told they don't have any fake stuff. They make their own vanilla flavoring with all natural sweetener. I forget how she said it was made, but she did mention the process imparted an earthy flavor. I tried it and was delighted with the distinctive taste.
They have a small store area that sells very high end coffee and espresso equipment. The place is beautifully impressive. You can tell the owners truly care about coffee and have put an incredible about of time, though and effort into serving one of the best cups in Tulsa. Tulsa is extremely lucky to have this special gem.
I paid the same amount here as I normally pay at my usual coffee hut, but the experience was superior, and my latte automatically came with more espresso in it. 5 Star. They put heart and soul...
Read moreDebatably the best coffee in town and my personal favourite in the Midwest. Not the best place in Tulsa if your preference is specialty drinks (i.e. fancy lattes), but if you're a straight-up coffee fan this place is for you. My go-to is black coffee with one of their pastries.
The coffee: These people are coffee perfectionists, and their general attention to detail really shows. I have literally never had black coffee even close to their quality. They roast their own beans twice a week so it's always fresh, and is not burnt or overly acidic. Each roast is its own great blend of flavour.
The food: This is not a spot to come for meals other than a light breakfast, but they do have an excellent selection of baked goods. These include staples like your standard loaves and coffee cakes, but often include more adventurous flavours like ginger donuts and pepper scones. The pastries are often made specifically to pair with a featured roast--ask the baristas for recommendations.
The atmosphere: Now in a new location on Boulder, this is one of the nicer atmospheres in Tulsa. Now housed in a large reconstructed 1800's barn, this location combines rustic charm with clean, modern lines. The floor plan feels open and spacious, yet they've made use of multiple levels to create nooks and crannies to curl up in relative privacy. As with the old location, there is plenty of seating and it is fairly quiet. Less of the live music and open mic vibe of Tulsa's other coffee shops, but a good choice for meetings, studying, or conversations you actually want to hear. The baristas are friendly and professional, and really...
Read moreA very unusual structure for this neighborhood and even Tulsa, located a few blocks from the iconic “Corn Cob Building.” I was more interested in the building’s architecture than the coffee. It seemed very out of place. It reminded me of the weekend fishing cabins that I have seen in Montana, built along the banks of blue-ribbon trout streams, by affluent out of staters.
I was enthralled with the interior. Post and beam construction, using hand hewn salvaged, reclaimed logs and lumber. Amazing beautiful wood, bearing the adze and axe marks that formed them. Some beams were aesthetically enhanced by years of weathering, a few showing stains of the paint that was used when they supported another building in another life. I spent the entire time admiring the timber and construction. The building is big. Two levels covering the coffee shop and roasting room. Comfortable expansive areas up and down, to relax and sip coffee.
Double Shot is well staffed and staffed well. There had to be 5-6 employees on duty. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, personable and helpful.
My wife gave me her order and went off to secure a table. I ordered my small latte with a shot of dark chocolate and for her a vanilla latte. The young lady replied “we don’t have vanilla we have panela.” Uh-oh, Houston we have a problem, what the hella is panela. I was only authorized to return with a vanilla latte. The young lady explained that it was basically brown raw sugar. Ok let’s give it a try.
Success, both coffees were very good. This the most unique coffee...
