Downunder — Restaurant in Tupelo

I asked the waitress how was the butter chicken and they said it was their favorite dish. I might be spoiled by having authentic Butter Chicken at Indian places but the chicken was dry, the curry was very salty, the rice was extra watery and not from the curry. The curry was not spicy at all and there just was not enough of it. The Naan was completely flavorless, no butter or garlic on it or anything. It tasted store bought. They gave me a ton of Naan but there was hardly any curry at all to dip it in so it was useless just eating totally plain naan.

I will say the wait staff was nice but it was a bit odd that they didn't even ask what we want to drink and just brought us water. We were fine with water but still thought it was strange. I did read that sometimes the chef is not in town and that might explain the quality of the dish but if that was the case I would prefer it not be recommended in...

Downunder is SUCH a great experience. I've been to bars and restaurants in big cities across the world, and Downunder still impresses me! The food is delicious; everything I've had has been really flavorful and unique. Get the mac and cheese and the peak pies for sure, and their potatoes are SO tasty. I love their imaginative cocktails, but if they're not for you, their bartenders will always make you something creative and to your taste. The vibe is casual, festive, and welcoming. Kris, the owner, is a friendly, life-of-the-party Australian who has never met a stranger. You see regulars who come back time and again because being there sort of feels like fun clubhouse (especially with the bar games and comfy couches)! Terrible experience. My husband and I had a babysitter and we were excited to try something new. There was only one other table who had already ordered their food. We waited 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order, but she kept talking and joking with the other table (maybe she knew them???) We finally gave up and left when we noticed her and the bartender watching something on the TV above the bar.
