I’ll start off with the good stuff before getting to any complaints because truly, this place is amazing. I’ll be the first to admit that Amsterdam has THE best food in Tupelo, and if you were to visit I’d always tell you that you need to try the food from this place. I don’t eat out a lot but during the few times I’ve been here, I’ve been overwhelmingly satisfied with the food and that usually doesn’t happen with other restaurants— it almost makes up for the complaints I have later on. Second, the customer service is spectacular. They make sure you’re satisfied with your meal and check up on you now and then, but don’t hound you like some other places to the point where it’s excessive. It’s perfect. I would absolutely give a 5 star rating if nothing else was wrong. But to me, atmosphere is everything when it comes to truly enjoying a restaurant, and during the daytime, Amsterdam is the perfect place to be. Very peaceful, even in a crowded setting. My main complaints come out of frustration with the musicians they have playing some nights. I don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade, and everybody starts out somewhere. But last night when I visited, the sound system was up so loud that you could not hear a thing around you, and my ears were ringing by the time I left. It was extremely difficult to order anything. The guy playing was also off key and off beat a number of times which made it difficult to truly enjoy it— everybody at my table was complaining about it and by the time we left, one said it was the worst acoustic they’ve ever heard in their life. I’m usually not so critical of musicians because I try to be as positive as possible since I know first hand how difficult it is. But truly, I have never been in a setting where the music was so horrible it just ruined the environment completely. When I’ve been to this place before, I have noticed that there’s a pattern of sound systems or musicians not being the best but it has NEVER gotten to a point where it ruined everything such as last night. I made a complaint to a waitress to please have him turn the sound down a notch so that it could be easier to enjoy the atmosphere a little more but that request was not fulfilled. Again, I’d love to give this place a 5 star rating but the musicians they’re hiring have got to start doing better :/ Amsterdam, when we go out to eat we want some nice background music to go along with an enjoyable environment while also being able to hear our peers and come out with our...
Read moreStaff were great. Food wise though left a lot to be desired (figuratively and literally). $22 for a meat kebab plate that didn't even include rice but a small baby cup of macncheese on the side(your only 1 side which you pick- I think they count rice as another side, which is unheard of for a Mediterranean restaurant? In middle eastern culture not serving rice with kebab or at least bread is almost an insult), a few pieces(yes pieces) of vegetables, and a side salad. Kebabs and vegetables were overcooked with the kebabs having lots of grill char/burnt exterior on them. Vegetables were also partially burnt. Kebab size was small/medium.
If you get the $10 falafels be prepared for packaged small size falafels (6) of them. They reminded me exactly of the frozen packs you can buy and cook yourself at home for much cheaper. They did include at least some minor salad underneath them though, kinda more like a decoration than a full meal however.
This city doesn't seem to have much options in regards to Mediterranean food; but the owners can at least make the prices reflect what they are serving, and not count on the populace not having enough exposure to Mediterranean/Middle eastern food for it to be price inflated.
Still hungry after eating/spending more than $30 here.
P.S. also my brother if you are Palestinian I'm a bit disappointed. Why no Palestinian sense of representation? Genocideeocccupation of your lands and not a single flag, name, or image denoting Palestine except for Palestinian falafel. You are in America, let the people know your ancestral home is being taken/stolen and it's people; babies, children, women, men, girls/boys are unjustly and innocently kiled/murderreed. Serving alcohol to the masses and are you not afraid of TheAlmighty? for it, but are you afraid to serve your own people's injustice being...
Read moreStopped over in Tupelo and selected this place tonight hoping for a decent meal after reading the reviews. Food was OK; service and management need work. We walked in 1.5 hours before closing, and the place was empty. I asked what time the kitchen was closing because I didn't want to slow up the crew if they were closing early, and they confirmed 10pm (what we had already read on Google before driving there).
My wife and I ordered two unsweet teas and then ordered food. We got our food in a reasonable amount of time but never got a single refill--nor did the waitress check on us again after dropping off our food. Again, we were the only ones there.
When she came to drop the check, I asked for refills and was told that they had already pulled the tea--what their only customers were drinking with their dinner. The waitress wasn't very friendly at all.
If you plan to close an hour early, why not mention that when a customer walks in and asks when your kitchen is closing? ...
