Fries were good. Sandwich was okay. Service was fast and people were friendly. So my only reasons for rating them 3 stars are that with a huge expansive menu, and decent crowd it took a while to order and get out. No biggie, good for them. The second reason, is I asked for a lunch combo, which they did not have on the board but they can do. I basically wanted chips and a drink with my regular sandwich. They put in some codes on the register and asked me if I wanted chips or fries and hell I went for the real potatoes. Suddenly my $7 sandwhich came out to $14.00. That was a bit more than I was expecting and maybe that is why they don't have lunch combo's boldly on display. My bad, I made the order without asking and there was a line behind me, so I rolled with it. It is not their fault but later as I was doing the math, to think someone can go get all you can eat at Sizzler for $12.95 or grab a quick lunch special here for $14.00 it didn't really add up. The fries are the type you get at Del Taco and the portion I would say is like a medium. One good scoop of fries, a small soda and a regular (8") sub is not something I will continually pay $14 for. Granted, the sandwiches are big, 8" rolls are no joke and someone who orders a full for a few dollars more can feed themselves 4 times. However, these bohemoths are mostly bread. A very soft, kind of doughy french roll, and when they get wet lettuce stuffed in them and set for a few minutes, the flavor changes drastically. As you get to the ends of the sandwhich, where the condiments and excess water have accumulated, you have a new substance in the white paper they come wrapped in. It is a spongy, goopy, messy, discard that does not resemble the sandwhich that you just bought. So, I have a couple of suggestions to make your visit more enjoyable. For one, just eat there! Don't let let your fries get cold and your sandwhich soggy, they might have been truly excellent but I had to deal with both problems and for me, after the tip, (again the service was fine) I just don't know if I would pay $16 to try them again. Certainly not for a to go order but I am open to the possibility that they may be great, if you open and eat your food, on the spot. It did seem like the people eating there were enjoying the atmosphere, bar, and food. So I am not dumping on this place. It was not bad. It was not great. For me, it was just okay. I saw the reviews and what else was around and I drove 6 miles out of my way to try them. Anyway, I brought the other half of my sandwhich to my Mom to try and she said it was okay but for her the bread was too soggy, as I mention above. To recap, eat it there, keep your sandwhich flat and if you have to take it to go, ask for it dry and put all of the condiments on it when you get to your destination. Mayo, Mustard, Water, and Pickle juice collecting at the end of a doughy roll, creates a less than delicious soggy slush that is not appealing and hard to hold on to. If you throw it hard at a wall, it will stick with a splush and probably never come down. If that is your thing, dine on and enjoy. If that sounds gross, see my...
Read moreWhy 5 stars? They aren't pretending to be what they aren't. It is a sandwich shop with a bar. The food is good, the decor is eh. I'm sure someone has an exact copy in Los Feliz that is "trendy" and charging $24.99 for a vegan version of a meatball sandwich.
Anywho, I like it. Some of my "trendy" co-workers prefer to pay 50% more for 50% less at "nicer" places but then again as a child we'd eat at roadside 'diners' in El Salvador. Dirt floors and a no electricity don't mean the food ain't good. By the same token, trendy decor doesn't mean you won't get poisoned at Chipotle. Put on your big boy or girl pants and...
Read moreFriendly people, good. Beer at 9:30am, GREAT. Easy to park. No line and almost no wait to get your food. The Philly sandwich itself was tasty but not the best I have had. It has marinara which is nice but results in a very very wet sandwich. The beef was too stringy and the cheese was barely existent. The included grilled onions were large chunks so a bit difficult to eat. I appreciate the lettuce I requested was shredded really fine as was the raw onion I asked for. It was a great option at 9:30am and since they have booze even at that time, who...
