Yamahana Sushi — Restaurant in Twentynine Palms

We got carryout here on our visit to SoCal. Being from a city with a decent food scene, I have to say that the sushi here was mediocre at best. My California roll was not quite as good as I’ve had even at grocery stores, and my spicy salmon roll was about average. Sadly, we had to go back because they neglected to put a set of chopsticks or soy sauce in my bag. Even with this mess-up, they were very conservative with the soy sauce packets. They don’t give you anywhere near enough ginger either. My wife got a ramen bowl here and said it was a bit sweet, but OK.

The dining room was small and unlike any sushi place I’d ever been in. They do have Japanese sushi chefs, but the quality of the ingredients was not good. I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but this place is incredibly pricey and may not even match up with the quality I get at Trader Joe’s (shipped from California to Ohio!) for $7. every time I call them when they are busy, they hang up the phone instead of just taking my order and giving me a wait time. The staff is unaware of the items they do and don't have because they decided to open without having the full menu. The sushi is to over priced for the quality and quantity. I went here three times and received superrr beyond slow (1 hour wait for 1 togo roll) service and mediocre sushi. There spicy mayo isn't good. Best part is i ordered a philadelphia roll once. You know, salmon,creamcheese, avacado. They gave me creamcheese and avacado and said there "salmon creamcheese roll" is what i should have ordered. I ordered this like this the first time i went here and i got it correct. SMH lol. I was shocked to see only avacado and creem cheese. Didn't realize we had sushi in 29! Accidentally walked into the place next door & almost left when we realized we were at the wrong restaurant! Thank goodness I double checked. Went to have some sushi for our anniversary. It's a casual place, but has a really charming vibe. You can tell they treat their workers well, which showed in how kind our "server", Alex was. Alex was great & deserves all the tips, so if you go in, be sure to do it well! Food was pricey, but I'll pay for sushi in the desert. It was fresh & tasty. Alex recommended the butterfly drinks & I'm glad she did. Light & refreshing. We had a great time & will be back.
