With a name like “Thaisons”, being located in Tyson’s Corner, plus a local Thai friend’s recommendation and finally being nearby at the right time, I chose to dine at Thaisons with my fiancé on a Friday evening after a long day of working.
Initially, we arrived with the intention of savoring Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle). However, we also discovered the special Stuffed Fried Chicken Wing and the delectable Bread Pudding Ice Cream. The appetizer of the Stuffed Fried Chicken Wing was presented with a filling mixture of minced ingredients, albeit lacking a certain depth of flavor, despite the sauce. The Pad Kee Mao, prepared with a medium spice level as recommended by the waitress, was exceptionally well-balanced, satisfying, and flavorful. It featured an abundance of meat, spices and vegetables, providing a hearty and spicy conclusion to our meal. The Bread Pudding Ice Cream served as a delightful dessert, effectively curbing the spiciness and offering a comforting finish to our culinary experience.
Despite the high volume of patrons on a Friday evening, we were fortunate enough to secure a table within a remarkably short time frame, less than two minutes. The attentive service from the host, who seated us, to the waitress who diligently took our order and brought our food to our table, created an impression of an overly rushed service. It appeared that our expedited service was intended to prioritize reservations, resulting in a somewhat hurried atmosphere. This rushed service had a detrimental impact on the quality of our meal. The meat in our Pad Kee Mao, which I initially mistook for beef, was later confirmed to be pork. The only positive aspect of this experience was the remarkable speed at which food was served, making it a relatively quick dining option for a sit-down restaurant.
In the end, the experience met the expectations set by the price paid. However, I must admit that it did not compel me to return for a more extensive meal when I am in the vicinity. While I would consider ordering a quick and reasonably priced Thai meal, I do not anticipate frequenting the establishment for more...
Read moreI want to preface by saying that we don't normally provide bad reviews as we enjoy supporting local small businesses, but I felt it could be helpful to inform others about our experience. We got takeout here on a Saturday night. It seemed like the dinner rush, so we waited around 10 minutes before a server acknowledged our presence. I was then told to wait near the back of the restaurant for takeout orders. I saw part of my order was ready, but no one acknowledged me for another 10 minutes until I had to flag another server down to ask about my order. At this point, it was already 20 minutes past our original pickup time. When the rest of the order was ready, a kitchen employee left it on a takeout cart. This means part of our order was resting for 25 minutes, which felt like poor timing on their part. I asked another employee where the rice was with our Rayong Beef Curry, and they said it comes with noodles, which was different from what the menu said, so I tried to get clarification. The employee then waved me off and said to ask someone else. I asked the other kitchen employee and they also said it comes with noodles, so at this point we just figured there was a mistake on the menu and left since we had already waited for over 25 minutes. When we got home, we realized that they messed up our order and gave us the Curry Minced Beef Noodle (which explains the noodles) and not the dry Rayong Beef Curry. The Pad See Ew that we ordered also had a piece of eggshell in it. Finally, we had asked for spice in both our dishes and they were both mild. Overall, we'll give two stars because the food wasn't necessarily bad, but the service was abysmal. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back and would not recommend this restaurant...
Read moreWe had never eaten here before but got takeout for the first time today & we’ll be repeat customers because this place is the real deal. All the dishes were beautifully packed & the owner was really sweet on the phone. Super happy they gave us real Thai spicy dishes as I’m Laotian.
Shrimp Paste Fried Rice: Loved this dish but would only recommend it for people who like funky & strong Asian flavors. Beautiful balance of shrimp paste, sweetness, fatness & fishiness. To me, this dish is the flavors of Southeast Asia.
Som Tum Lao: So happy I ordered this dish as it’s nearly impossible to find the Laotian version of this salad done well. Most Thai places make the Thai/Vietnamese version as these versions are milder & more palatable to American taste buds. Their version of this is what you would get in Laos & I wouldn’t expect many non-natives to like the stronger flavors in the Lao version. This dish is so good to my Asian taste buds, which love strong flavors.
Pad Thai & Drunken Noodles: Both were absolutely delicious & the texture of the noodles was perfect.
You can taste the freshness & high quality ingredients in all their dishes. Good portions & the inside of the restaurant...
