I was craving some freshly made banh cuon and this place was the only place near the San Leandro, Hayward, Union City area that I knew had it. I went on a superbowl Sunday lunch hour and had to wait 20 min in a line that stretched past 2 more businesses. Everyone was good at sticking to the 6ft social distancing rule even without the presence of floor markings and didn't block the other stores entrances. They only allow one person ordering in the store at a time and everyone waits outside for their order. It was by no means a quick pick up and go situation as I had to wait another 20 min to get my food. Even those that just ordered 1 sandwich waited the same amount of time. Not sure if this is normal or just because they had a lot of catering orders that day. I ordered 2 #6 special combo which was $5 each and one platter of their banh cuon ($7.25 each for 8 rolls). I wanted to get their banh beo but they only offer those on Saturdays. The banh mi was nicely packed with enough protein in a light and soft roll. Their banh cuon was warm and silky smooth. Super happy with both things and can't wait to be back for more! Others customers suggested to call ahead to pick up as you get to cut the line that way - good to know for next time! Remember they're a cash...
Read moreMy family's been going here since I was a kid; that's 15+ years!! The only thing that's changed is the prices. My dad remembers when the banh mi were sold for $1. Now they're about $2.50+, depending on which Vietnamese sandwich (banh mi) you order.
The sandwiches here are the best, and cheapest sandwiches you'll find in East Bay. My family always order the pork combo and grilled chicken sandwiches. We've even ordered a bunch to bring to our church in Oakland, and they always say it's the best!
You can also order a bunch of goi cuon (spring rolls) and egg rolls for big parties. You can even order nuoc mam (fish sauce), which is pretty handy if you don't want to make it at home. Grilled pork and grilled chicken is also good here. They used to have giant meatballs a couple years back; I miss those! We've also gotten bun bo hue and pho to go, if we're too busy to...
Read moreThey haven’t really change up the place the last time I came here besides the menu, which they try to make it more aesthetic. However, it didn’t match the atmosphere of the place since it’s still too simple.
They do make sandwiches fast, but the issue is that they have to rush the service. The cashier was trying to take my order and serve the lady food at the same time, which is quite awkward. I suggest having another employee to take care of either role.
Otherwise, the sandwiches are good though, but I wanted to get the BBQ chicken but they’re out...
