I really wanted to like this place and was super-excited to try the food here based on the reviews and based on a recommendation. However, my food experience was disappointing.
I will preface this review by saying I did enter the restaurant right at opening at 11:00 a.m. so that may have contributed to my experience.
Item ordered: 1/2 bbq chicken and 1/2 ribs combos with black beans, came with rice.
First the good: 1) friendly staff, 2) atmosphere was okay, 3) they do give you a lot of rice, 4) they do have other choices for sides, and 5) seasoning on the 1/2 chicken and 1/2 ribs was good.
Now the areas for improvement: 1) size of the chicken was small, looked more like a Cornish hen, 2) the meat in the two pork ribs was almost non-existent, 3) the black beans had no flavor and tasted like they were simply warmed up, 4) no meat only menu options, at least I didnāt see any, and 5) the rice was just meh as it did not have any flavor really and had a few peas, very few, but this is a bbq place and not a āsidesā place. A meat only menu option like other bbq places would be a nice option.
In my opinion, based I the areas for improvement, the food was not worth the price and I would not return based upon this one experience. Again, this may have been due to the time I came to eat, I hope so as I really like to positively support small and locally owned businesses.
I will say that they were busy as heck with to-go orders and the phone was constantly ringing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming to Burnet BBQ for years and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently good; hot, seasoned well, and never dry, whether the chicken is just off the grill or has been cooked earlier. The ribs are equally delicious and the rice and beans accompanying are terrific too! You get a mountain of food for a molehill of money. Burnet is a high-volume operationāyou go in on a Friday or Saturday evening and the phone will not stop ringing and the orders are backed up on the counter. But the consistency remains very high, and the service, although hurried, is always cheerful and personable. The staff in this location has been here for years, and they manage very well to keep up with the incredibly high volume of orders. There are a limited number of tables/seats in the restaurant, and though itās clear this is not fine dining, if you come in with the expectation that this is an ideal place for hungry people to get filled up fast, you will leave very satisfied. You can, however, get a very good espresso to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I have been ordering food from the Burnet BBQ on Burnet Ave in Union for many years at least 6 to 8 times a year. My children also order from the same place and additionally order at least 20 more times a year collectively. Last night we were all getting together to celebrating our 37th anniversary and decided to order from them. The Shrimp in Garlic Sauce had very little sauce, was tasteless, and the shrimps were obviously not fresh, looked like it had been precooked the previous day. The BBQ Ribs were dry and not as tasty, probably also precooked. The fries were dry and the food was lukewarm at best. We got there 25 minutes after ordering. They must be under new owners or management. Usually when I go to pickup food the BBQ pit is full of Various types of meat cooking; last night (around 7) there was hardly anything being cooked. Regretfully, we wonāt be ordering from them again. I writing this review to let them know that if this unacceptable service continues they are going to go out of business. A word to...
