So, this past Saturday I hosted a party of 100 people at Lagar for my son’s first birthday, and I just wanted to share my experience. From start to finish I have to say the service was AWFUL. I had my reservations about using Lagar to begin with, but my family knows the previous manager (Manny), and he assured us everything would be fine. When I went in to finalize everything for the party the week before I was surprised to find out that Manny is no longer there, and there is a new manager. Although I was anxious about the new manager, he also assured me everything would be great. The day of the party came, and our first course was a soup (caldo verde). The soup came out ONE HOUR after the start time (6:30pm). The soup was mostly flour, and had almost no collard greens in it. Another hour later the appetizers came out. One of my guests approached me and mentioned that there wasn’t enough food on the table, and that she advised the waiter. The waiter then told my guest that on my contract it stated only two plates of each dish were to be put on each table. No where on my contract did it say that, and it was very unprofessional for a waiter to discuss “my contract” with a guest. They were putting the same amount of food on a table of twenty that they were putting on a table of eight. Then, TWO HOURS after the appetizers the main course finally comes out. Everything on the plate tasted as if it was reheated leftovers. The “paella” was nothing more than rice and a few shrimp here and there. The fact that I had guests come to tell me how bad the food was was embarrassing! I also forgot to mention that I asked the manager multiple times at our meeting if our guests would be able to ask for bottled beer at the table. He assured me the waiters would bring the bottled beer to the table. When we asked for beer, the waiter brought out beer in a pitcher. The manager tried to argue that my contract didn’t include bottled beer. The manager also promised my mother in-law that he would have Avelda wine as a good portion of my family drinks it. They had not one bottle. Actually, one waiter at the end of the night told my mother in-law that they don’t even carry that wine, and wasn’t sure why the manager promised it. At the end of the party we complained to the manager, and the “best he could do” was not charge for the children. I only had four paying children, so that wasn’t much help. Disappointed is an understatement, and I will NEVER host a party at...
Read moreJohn was our server and he was the only good thing about my dinner. The service was great!! I was greeted immediately and sat at a nice table. Everything was impeccably clean and John was friendly, quick in getting our drinks and food, very attentive and friendly.
The decor was very nice. They have garden of Eden theme which is tastefully done and carries well throughout the space. However, the atmosphere was quickly ruined by the strong stench of cigarette smoke from multiple men smoking right at the entrance door. It felt as if they were smoking right at the table next to me as the dining area doors are left open for airflow which is nice but for the smoking.
The food was HORRIBLE! I ordered the garlic chicken and it was tough and chewy on the inside and mushy on the outside. I was not expecting soggy breading as the description was “pan seared”. I left half on the plate because I could not stomach it. The chicken came with white rice and “Spanish fries” which were simply home made potato chips. I ate both sides and they were not bad just bland I don’t even think the chips were salted. Again I was not anticipating plain chips where I see the item as “Spanish fries”. In my opinion it was also overpriced for what was delivered which was white rice, chips and two low quality chicken strip like pieces of chicken.
Other things to note that are out of the norm:
They don’t appear to have fountain drinks as our soda came in a can. This was fine however if you like refills with dinner it is something to note.
They charge a mandatory 20% gratuity no matter party size. This trip I did not mind because service was great and I would normally tip that amount at minimum for good service however it may have been something that bothered me if the situation was different.
This seems to be a better spot for drinks vs food/dinner. I did not personally have any alcoholic drinks but I saw a few being brought out and they all looked well made and...
Read morePassed by Lagar and decided to go in there one day. Went in around 5:30 PM. On the patio there were only 2 tables occupied and the rest were empty. We got seated on the patio and waited about 5 minutes for the waiter to come but there was no one there. We instead asked where our waiter was? A young guy mentioned let me go grab her. Our lovely waiter arrived. She was super clueless about what was good on the menu just like us. We ordered two drinks and an order calamari as an appetizer. She left to get us the drinks and in 2 minutes we had the calamari on our table being served by the same young guy as prior. She later return with our drinks. Drinks were small but they were AMAZING!!! The calamari was really good as well and tasted very fresh. She didnt even ask if we were ready to order. But stood there clueless without a mask. We told her we were ready. We ordered sirloin steak with french fries, and rice and beans, and my wife ordered Pan seared veal in a marinara sauce served whit white rice with fried potatoes. That was the end of our waiter. NEVER SAW HERE AGAIN. The entrees were so bad. NO FLAVOR at all. They were just cooked without salt and pepper. I had to ask the young guy for ketchup to have my fries with since it was not provided on the table. No one came to ask how our food was, or to check on us. When we decided to pay we called the same young guy to thank him for his service and tipped him instead because he deserved it. we handed him the credit card and he told us if our waiter told us that the internet was broken and we shook our head and responded we were not made aware of that. luckily we had cash. We paid and left.
This was our first time and last time we will ever spend go to this place. My best advice is to save your money and go elsewhere. Food is blah, Service is the worst, no credit card, and no management on...
