I ordered the #29 combination plate (cheese enchilada, beef taco, chile relleno) along with some flour tortillas so I could make a bean burrito of the beans and rice.
The chile relleno was good, but the relleno sauce had too much celery for my tastes. I'd have preferred cactus or peppers of some kind in the sauce. The enchilada sauce was very light, almost tomato soup color and no strong chile flavor. It might have gotten mixed up too much with the chile relleno sauce. It was only ok. The taco was very hot, which was nice, but the edges of the tortilla were burned and the bits of meat sticking out the sides were crispy, so it likely spent too much time in the deep fryer.
I was disappointed in the flour tortillas. Normally they arrive steamed or just heated, but these had been put on the grill so long that they were crispy and unusable for making a burrito. They'd have made a great quesadilla if filled with cheese. The salsa was also disappointing as it was very watery with raw onions, tomatoes, and more cilantro than I like. The chips were good, especially when warm.
The food is a bit on the pricey side, so I'm not sure if I'll return again or not. I didn't hate it, but didn't particularly like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy friends and I dined at El Perico Ranchero in Upland last night.
I ordered the Steak Ranchero. It was very flavorful. I was surprised by how much food that I had on my plate for such a reasonable price. I was quite full when I was done. I've had this dish at the Rancho Cucamonga location multiple times. It's a little different there. One probably isn't necessarily better than the other... they're just... a little different. The rice and beans were good too. Other dishes ordered included a chili relleno / taco combo plate and a couple of orders of what I believe is called Milanesa (it looked like chicken fried steak). Everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had as well.
The chips were awesome. The corn torillas were great too. My one "complaint" was that the salsa was a bit on the bland side. Perhaps it was an off night, but I like the salsa at the Rancho Cucamonga location better. It's more "tomato-y" there.
The service was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and very attentive, especially our server.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I would not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo this night started with a simple order placed by my mother of a mango margarita on the rocks, the waiter managed to mess that up and pawn it off on a nearby table. Brought her the correct margarita after helping take another order. Next, it was time to order food... Me, being a vegetarian, know what I can and cannot eat. I ordered the chili relleno burrito, knowing it was meatless. After a short wait I was brought a chili verde burrito. So I called a busboy over who apologized immediately and took my plate. The waiter walked by four times in the time between me not having a plate and my mother eating, not once stopping to see if everything was okay. When confronted by myself and my mother about it, he went to pull out his ticket and try to prove me wrong instead of apologizing for the mistake. He then stood there and didn't say a word, just remained still until asked to leave. Now, as I sit here and type this, he continues to walk by the table, glancing over but not stopping to apologize. Needless to say, I...
