Disappointing experience. They are skimming and expedient about their food. I ordered #2, spring rolls and while they came out hot and newly fried I was surprised to bite into a log of meat. They clearly mash the ingredients together and create meat logs, roll them in paper and fry. Whatever was in it didn’t taste fresh. I’ve been to Vietnam and have eaten in Vietnamese restaurants all over the U.S. This is the first time I’ve bitten into a log of formed meat and it wasn’t pleasant. Then the barbecue pork vermicelli bowl came out. Underneath is a mound of shredded iceberg lettuce and bean sprouts, which makes the bowl look full but there’s actually very little meat and noodles. It’s deceptive plating practices meant to deceive because the bowl looks full. In every other restaurant the lettuce, cucumber, carrots, and bean sprouts are on top, set off to the side of the bowl. Here they use them to make the serving appear to be worth the full and worth the $16.95 they charge. It’s not. The dish was bland and didn’t come with carrots. Simply the best Vietnamese in the area…and, maybe, all of Philly. Vincent and his crew are wonderful, including his sister Nok. They take pride in the food that they serve and it shows. No short cuts. The pho is the best, but make sure you try other dishes. Definitely the grilled pork chops with broken rice. And the Bo Luc Lac (#119): NY Strip cubes sautéed in butter with onions…served with fresh vegetables, rice, and lime/salt/pepper sauce. Out of this world. Oh, and make sure to get a fresh lemonade (it’s actually lime, though, and you’ll be thankful it is…so refreshing). There’re small details that totally win me over, such as the complimentary pot of good hot tea, the small condiment dishes at the table to mix your own dipping sauce just as in Vietnam ❤️, their chili paste 🔥 and their side mixed veggies (so fresh and clean) Main thing, food is tasty and authentic. Pho’s meat cuts are on point, broth is flavorful. Recommend Bun Bo Hue here. Every time I come, I will get their custard bao bun if available, it’s very good!
