Food was delicious, but the customer service was VERY poor.
As I have dined here in the past, I was used to a standard of service that was not consistent with the last time. I asked the waitress (she never introduced herself but had short hair and looked like an older woman) if I can substitute zucchini for broccoli (which is what they did for me last time...as well as many other hibachi restaurants). She insisted that she couldn't do this and that I would be charged extra if I did. I ended up telling her it's fine and that I will just take the zucchini (because she was giving me a hard time) and moved on with my meal.
Once the chef started making the food, I saw that he included broccoli in my meal (after I told the waitress I didn't want it) but I figured maybe she just wanted to be nice.
So once I start eating, I asked the waitress for water. She aggressively leaned over my meal and poured the water with so much force that it was overfilled. My friend even looked over and said she noticed how rude it was.
My friend then asked for a to-go box (which I feel like the waitress should have offered looking at our plates) and I also asked, but she ended up ignoring me. She brought my friend a container and sarcastically looked at me and said "oh you wanted one too?" - knowing that I had SO much food on my plate.
At that point we asked for the check and she didn't ask if we wanted it split or together (which other restaurants normally do if they see two girlfriends getting dinner). Then she brought back the check and charged me for the broccoli! After I stated explicitly that I don't want it anymore. I was so frustrated. She then took 20 minutes to return to our table to get our check (my friend thought she was avoiding us). So unprofessional.
Then I see her talking about me with her coworker in front of me (my friend is Chinese and can translate).
If you go to this restaurant and have a different waitress, maybe you'll enjoy your experience. But she was an older looking Asian woman with short hair. She was nice to everyone else at the table (my Chinese friend, two white people at the other end) but was disrespectful to me - a...
Read moreWhile I have never had a bad dinner here, I have always found Ooka to be very crowded and noisy. This is the only local place my wife will eat sushi at though, so I tolerate it. But on Father's day, she took me and my daughter and it was extra bad. We arrived promptly at 6:30, our reservation time. After about ten minutes of waiting I asked the hostess when we could expect our table. Her reply was that a table had paid and they were just waiting for them to leave. We waited another fifteen minutes and we could see one table clearing. It sat empty for about five minutes before being bussed. We were finally seated at a little after 7. When the server came for our order, he warned us that the kitchen was backed up and my daughter's cooked meal may take longer. I asked him how long this would be and he could not say. At this point I was ready to leave but my wife said to stick it out. He came back a few minutes later to tell us that the chefs would move her order up. Our sushi showed up in a reasonable amount of time and after a couple of bites, it became apparent that our daughter's Yakatori was not coming out anytime soon. So we stopped eating to wait. It took 20 minutes for the chicken to be served. The server informed us that we would be offered free dessert for our troubles. I refused telling him it was little recompense for our wait. What went wrong? Yes, it was a holiday and most likely extra busy. Why didn't the hostess recommend for us to sit at the sushi bar and start our dinner there? There were more than enough seats and it would have been better than sitting in the crowded waiting area. When I asked how long do I have to wait, I wanted a number, not some vague excuse. I believe that I was lied to about my daughter's order being "moved up". At the very least, a complimentary nibble while we wait for 'all' of our entrees to show up AT THE SAME TIME. And any apologies need to come from management, not the server. We will look for a new local...
Read moreI’ve been to the Doylestown and Montgomeryville Ooka before coming to this one. Those two were spectacular but I can say without a doubt that this was the worst one. There is no waiting area at all, so when we got there the stairs and tiny front lobby was packed tight. Our reservations which we called well ahead of time for, was for 6pm. We were seated at 630 and didn’t have any kind of food in front of us until about 6:50-7pm ish. Because of the lack of a lobby it made it very uncomfortable to eat when people behind you are waiting to be seated because the lobby is overflowing. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars and not 1 is because of the chef who was at our table, one of the better hibachi chefs I’ve had.
To the food. Doylestown and Montgomeryville as always spectacular. This place (willow grove) was bland and dry and made feel like I had wasted my money. I can honestly say(with a little bit of grilling experience) it was not the chefs fault but rather how the food was stored/prepared before cooking. The vegetables looked like the dehydrated vegetables you get in Roman noodle cups..... overall I don’t plan on attending this Ooka again.
I want it to be known after this that I’m not bashing all Ooka just the willow grove ooka. 10/10...
