Nestled in a quaint, semi-rustic store front and broken into three areas: One where baked goods are ordered, one where you can witness treats being prepared and another where you can pay for your purchases. This place is one of the best bakeries, not only in the Philly suburbs, but possibly even in the state of Pennsylvania. My family has frequented this location for over 40 years and they have been in business for over 100 years. They prepare consistently delicious baked goods, speacializing in cakes. Their Cannoli cake is a delectable treat that will keep you coming back for more. The staff is quite friendly and willing to help if you are not quite sure what might catch your fancy on that particular day. They also have a website where you can browse their selection and pre-order if you'd like.
While this is an amazing bakery with spectacular service, it is not without its flaws: Being an older establishment, it is located in an area where parking can be challenging at times. Parking in front of the store isn't generally an issue, but it can be a bit daunting during holidays or when foot-traffic is heavy. The layout of the store can be a smidge confusing for those who have never been before, as I mentioned above, the store is broken into 3 areas that each serve a different function. If you pre-order, your order will have to be paid for in the far-right area and picked up on the other end. The price of their goodies are also a tad high, however, the quality of them is superior and worth the expense.
If you're in the Philly 'burbs and are looking for a sweet snack, stop on by and give 'em a try, you surely won't...
Read moreNice bustling bakery with very affordable baked goods-- but then you have to question the prices with what eggs and butter are now going for these days. But for a party I would def grab cupcakes or a cake here as it's solid and good enough for a crowd. I'm just picky as a semi-prof baker so take the rest of my review with a grain of salt.
So firstly I wouldn't call this a German Konditorei but more like a standard Americana 1950s bakery --having German family and visiting them I was looking for those items the closest was wonder cake but it lacked the traditional apples. The cake was my favorite out of everything but lacked a nice defined crumb and the frosting doesn't have a strong flavor of real vanilla, chocolate etc. Petit fours were missing the jam layer and enrobed in plain royal icing vs fondant. Sticky buns were ok but lacked moisture and any sort of defined flavor, the macarons were not that bad they had nice feet but they were unfortunately dense and chewy. The chocolate chip cookie sandwich was almost raw/not fully cooked and the consistency of mushy cake. Butter cookies were dry and again lacked any flavor other than sugar/overt sweetness. I can't say I would make an effort to return here when there's so many other great bakeries in my neighborhood but it's clearly working for them as a business as there was a huge line...
Read moreEdited 4-25-2024: I have given 5 Stars again, but I must make note of the issue. I purchased a 6" cake and other items. It was lovely with sprinkles all around the sides. It was a birthday cake for my niece. When I received my receipt (which I always check any receipts) I noticed a $3.00 charge. I said to the lady, "oh, do you charge now for writing Happy Birthday on the cake?" And she said, "no, it is for the sprinkles around the cake." Well, I don't know about you, but I told her that the owner needs to display signs regarding that extra cost. My family and I have purchased bakery items from this bakery for over 40 years and never heard of this, nor at any other bakery. The cake was $25 and the sprinkles were $3. Why not charge $28 from the very beginning? The sprinkles were already on the cake in the display counter. Dear Owner, you really need to post signs about extra charges for things already on the cake.--1st Review: 9-2022 This bakery has THE BEST butter cookies and there are many varieties. I haven't found any other bakery who makes great butter cookies other than Weinrich's. They make the...
