*I'm going to preface this review with the fact that we came here around an hour before closing. This could affect the quality of the food we were served, and so you should keep that in mind as you are reading this review. Looking at other reviews, this place seems to be really good, so when we arrived may have been what caused things to lack. *
Overall, the food was o-k. The California Screamin' Burrito I ordered had blackened chicken in it, which to me was simply slightly overcooked chicken. It felt like it was doused in barbeque sauce, although it was supposed to be queso. The Sunset Bowl we ordered specified avocado slices, but there was none. Surprisingly, the chips and guacamole were the only 5 star worthy item we received: it was really good. We decided to check the "Wall of Sauces" to spice up our food. We saw the "Endorphin Rush", the spiciest sauce available, and if you no longer wish to taste your food anymore (as your tongue will be too numb to taste anything), knock yourself out. We didn't try any other sauces, so I cannot tell you how the others were compared to this.
The seating arrangement was fine, but it wasn't very clean. The bathroom was better, though.
Overall, this place is okay, and it's possible that certain factors contributed to our subpar experience. The price is around the same as Chipotle, and California Tortilla manages to give more flexibility and more options to the table, as well as better chips and guac. However, I don't think the quality stacks up to the competitors from my experience. Maybe giving them another shot during the day could change my opinion, but for now, I'd still go...
Read moreI visit Cali Tort at the Royersford location a good bit, my daughter enjoys their non-meat selections and the quality is up and down in my opinion. It may be who is working that day, I am not sure but I have had two recent experiences of the food quality being subpar. In one instance I ordered the family taco night which used to be a good deal, but shrinkflation has definitely happened and the price went up and amount of food especially the protein (chicken, ground beef) is way down. I was also disappointed that my daughter's side order of tofu was 5 pieces! 5 small pieces.....just crazy! My last experience was with one of my favorite items that Cali Tort has and that was Bangkok Shrimp burrito, bowl, and they added tacos! I ordered the burrito for myself and the tacos for my son and for the first time ever was disappointed with this fave. The shrimp were overcooked and I'd rather them be overcooked than under, but these were chewy like rubber. Also, I can't recommend the tacos because each only had three shrimp on them. I wondered if maybe they were running low on shrimp? Don't look at the picture of the taco and think you'll be getting 6-8 shrimp on your tacos! I suppose the economy may be having some of the impact I am seeing at Cali Tort, but hope it gets better!! There are a couple of other places in the area that serve really great Tex/Mex food that may be looked at...
Read moreToday was my first time here and didn't know what to expect so when 30 mins went by and no food I didnt think much of it because they were super busy but then I see others who just walked in get their food. So I asked how long it takes to get your order and they said about 5 to 10 mins. Turns out the mix up was i was put in as takeout and my food was sitting there the whole time in a bag for me to pick up lol. The staff was fabulous they made us fresh food immediately and went above and beyond to make the situation right without me even asking for anything. While sitting there waiting for 30 mins I noticed an employee Luke, he was so helpful and polite, taking peoples trays, opening doors for people. Other than the mix up (hey we are all human) it was a great meal and super friendly and accommodating staff! I highly recommend! Thanks again for turning what could have been a bad experience into...
