A Budget-Friendly Bite with Standout Service
The Gumbo Sampler is an undeniable steal at under $5. The portion includes two shrimp and two hush puppies, all presented with care. While the visual appeal was on point, the gumbo itself fell short—lacking the depth of spice and complexity one expects from a well-executed bowl.
On the recommendation of an exceptionally knowledgeable cashier—who provided five-star service—we opted for the Destin Platter. Her enthusiasm and expertise elevated the experience, making her a true asset to The Wharf.
For the platter, I requested everything blackened. The dish arrived with six shrimp, mahi mahi, a crab cake, and two sides: smoked Gouda cheese grits and deviled egg potato salad.
PROS: Value for money: The gumbo sampler, a fountain drink, and the generously portioned platter totaled $34, making it easily shareable between two people. Hush puppies: Perfectly executed—crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside, with a balanced seasoning that made each bite pop. Deviled egg potato salad: A standout side. Creamy with just the right ratio of egg to potato, delivering a consistent, well-seasoned bite every time. I’d happily buy a tub of this for a potluck. Blackened shrimp: Fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The blackening spice complemented the shrimp without overpowering its natural sweetness. CONS: Crab cake: Generously sized and packed with meat, but the texture was a major letdown—mushy, with no discernible binder like crackers to hold it together. The fact that it arrived steaming hot, as if microwaved, only added to the disappointment. Mahi mahi: Overpowering blackened seasoning masked the fish’s natural flavor, while its rubbery texture raised concerns about its quality. A properly cooked mahi mahi should be flaky and tender—this was anything but. Final Verdict: While the gumbo and seafood execution had inconsistencies, the stellar customer service and standout side dishes made the experience worthwhile. The value for money also can't be ignored. I’d return—perhaps with different menu choices—primarily for the warm hospitality and those hush puppies and deviled egg potato salad.

Read moreI love to experience assorted flavor in food and environments when I visit different places. My pick of the week in Valdosta GA is Wharf Casual Seafood. The space and decor was, clean restrooms, open seating and comfortably lit booths. The service (where you order, pick up, and bring to your table) was handled by the most authenticity nice, helpful and patient person I've had the pleasure of meeting in a while (McKenna). I decided on the Shrimp plate, (grilled), hushpuppies and southern coleslaw with an IBC rootbeer and a slice of lemon pound cake. All for under $20.The shrimp were grilled and flavored to that delicate state of perfection were when placed on your tongue, you got a savory wash of scampi and warm butter, and that pop of shrimp nector as you bit into it, neither overpowering the other. Mmmmm those shrimp were good... The hushpuppies were hushpuppies, but the southern coleslaw was new for me and if thick and creamy with a little tang and a hint of sweet is your thing, like me, you will crave a helping to go, for a snack later. I look forward to trying another menu item on my next visit...shrimp tacos or...
Read moreFirst visit and it was phenomenal! Best part of the visit? Director Brandon Honeyman! (Well a close runner up was the food, haha) Today my Boss recommended to get lunch at the Wharf today at the office, and I know where the location is, just haven’t had the opportunity to visit. So glad I did! I tried the Shrimp and Grits, It had lots of flavor and a great portion. I also really enjoyed the hush puppies. When I was waiting for my to go order, I spoke with Brandon about the sourcing of the fish and he explained the process to me in detail. I was actually very happy to learn that the way they handled the fish, was the safest way possible. Immediately, I was excited to come back and try the salmon. He assured me the fish is very high quality and seemed very passionate about the company. He explained to me the various ways they prepared a few favorites on the menu, and invited me back with a complimentary appetizer! It’s hard to find people that are passionate, knowledgeable, and caring about what they do. I was very impressed and truly excited to come back! Thanks Brandon, you made a new customer today! And possibly an...
