C J's BBQ & Fish — Restaurant in Vallejo

I went here for the first time and let's just say it will also be my last! It was nowhere near worth the $38 dollars I paid. I ordered the 3 way combo. I got ribs, chicken and hotlinks with mild sauce. My sides were potato salad and baked beans. The only thing that was decent was the ribs. The ribs were good. The chicken was DRY and mostly inedible due to it being so hard and dry. Also it didn't look grilled. The links were dried out and hard. They looked like they had been reheated or under a heat lamp for an extended period of time. They put a ton of sauce over it. Maybe to try and give the food a bit of moisture. That didn't work though. 😕

As for the sides, HORRIBLE!!!! The baked beans had hard beans in them. It seemed like as if they added additional beans to some beans that they already had cooked and they were trying to stretch out their supply of beans. They also lacked a full flavor that you'd expect from baked beans. It tasted like a ton of sugar in the BBQ sauce used for the beans. Also, those hard beans looked like kidney beans (red beans). I thought that was strange that those would be used. It's totally unacceptable to serve people uncooked, hard beans. The potato salad was not good. I ended up doctoring up the potato salad and added mustard and some seasonings. I love supporting small business and local spots but won't spend another dime with them. My reason is because of what I stated above and also this isn't some accident or a 1 off situation. This is a restaurant that looks like they are cutting corners and not being mindful of quality and food safety. It's visible that the food is dry and hard and possibly old. Ok so, I’ve been looking for some good bbq in Vallejo for a while. Someone else recommended CJ’s. Thank you to that person! The food is GOOD! When I tell you the ribs are cooked and smoked to perfection! They were so good! My family and I ordered ribs, links, potato salad, cabbage, baked Mac and cheese and corn bread. I wanted to post pictures but it slipped my mind because I was grubbing lol.. But yes I definitely would recommend them if you’re looking for some GOOD bbq. First of all, they never have any sides. Why advertise greens, cornbread, peach cobbler, etc. if you never have it! Pulled up to this place at 6:30 on a Sunday evening to get dinner for the family, the owner who seemed to have an attitude said that they’re closed. I mentioned to him that the hours on google and the business windows say 7pm. He said it’s slow and he’s not paying for employees to stay until 7pm, mind you it’s 6:30. I’m sure my Order would have covered the employee and some but whatever. It’s his business, he can run it however he wishes, run it right in the ground.
