Decided to try this new restaurant tonight and was not disappointed! Shared mahi tacos, coconut rice, refried black beans and pomegranate guacamole. Our server was very thorough and attentive. Excellent michelada (La jefa), which was one of many different versions they had available, that all sounded delicious. Will be back!

Awesome selection of fresh produce, meats and pre-made dishes. The food is fantastic and the staff was extremely eager to help and aided in making a selection! We will be coming back often to support this local buissness!

There are several choices for Mexican food in Valpo, and we've found most of them to be just...okay. (I often find them disappointing, or stomach-achey.) But I was pleasantly surprised at La Mexicana this week. The food was interesting, differentiated from the norm with good spices and cheeses, and it felt like the plate was made up carefully with a kind of pride in the food coming from the kitchen.
