I feel so lucky to have found the Valparaiso in bed-and-breakfast. It made the perfect long weekend for my adult daughter’s birthday. She requested to go to the Indiana dunes for her birthday, so I wanted to find something a little more unique than a regular hotel. The bed was the most comfortable experience ever at any lodging I’ve experienced. The food at breakfast was out of this world, presented beautifully and tasted amazing. Jim, the innkeeper is very, very kind and thorough. The care in which he takes of his Inn, the food preparation, presentation and service, and helpfulness was beyond compare. Upon our arrival, he briefed us on all the great spots nearby. And nearby is amazing, within walking distance, in fact. The downtown is just charming. I would vote it my favorite ever (in my 54 years). There is a nice mix of shops, restaurants and activities. The Inn itself has a very lovely appearance, we had a view of charming outdoor lights and yard area. The bathroom and room were so lovely , with a calming choice of wall color and a very classy bathroom decor ( walls, floor, shower). everything was very clean and tidy, and there were fresh linens, and towels every day. Most all of the furniture were lovely antiques. During our visit, we went to the Albanese candy factory, Indiana dunes national park, A nearby family fun Center with putt putt, golf, and other fun activities, as well as many of the shops and restaurants in the nearby downtown. For my daughter’s birthday, we ate on the rooftop of a restaurant called Stacks and there was so much food for the price, it was crazy. In my pictures, you will see a couple of Jim’s creations (wish I’d taken pictures every day) at the breakfasts, and the salad...
Read moreIf you are ever given the chance to stay here, I HIGHLY recommend it. I was greeted by the proprietor Jim and and he gave me some history of the place and showed me around. IThe bed is comfy and I slept very well. I also enjoyed the jacuzzi tub for 2 nights of soaking with a good glass of wine. Add the ambiance of the town itself and being walking distance to fine restaurants and bars, the location is perfect for a nice walk with your significant other. Yesterday's breakfast was the best. Fresh squeezed orange juice and water with lemon were at the table upon my arrival. J greeted me with coffee and a plethora of delicious home made food that was to die for. Sliced strawberries with creme fraiche to start. Next was a warm flaky cheese danish fresh out of the oven followed by baked garlic cheese grits, roasted roma tomato half with herbs and spinach, and crab cake Benedict. If you're a foodie like me, you're in for a treat. I complimented his breakfast and look forward to today's. Yes I haven't left yet and am writing this from my comfy bed. If you have an opportunity to stay and are unsure whether to or not, I recommend you do. Thank you Jim for welcoming me into your wonderful place and making me...
Read moreThis Inn is amazing! The historic mansion has been meticulously restored and lovingly and beautifully decorated. The period furnishings are tasteful and appropriate without being trite or suffocating. Our room was elegant and spacious and the bathroom was fantastic and modern with beautiful tile and fixtures. It was immaculately clean and the bed was very comfortable with pretty new bedding. It was extremely quiet. The downstairs living area features a huge living area, a parlor, and a dining room which were all comfortable and welcoming. An enclosed porch looked like it would be a delightful venue in which to relax in warmer months. Jim, the owner of the Inn, made a scrumptious breakfast consisting of crab cakes topped with poached eggs on a bed of sautéed kale. It was preceded by a fresh fruit mixture and had a roasted sweet potato hash and a wonderful croissant on the side. The breakfast table was set with embroidered linens, antique porcelain china, and crystal glassware. Jim was happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions. I highly recommend this Inn for anyone who is interested in a very elegant and...
