Shinsen Sushi is a total winner. Definitely NOT inexpensive, Shensen delivers on all counts . The atmosphere is a classy chilled and cozy vibe . Shinsen would be perfect on a first date as much as it would be ideal for a small group of friends. There's a cozy bar/lounge nook with a few tables, just as you walk into Shinsen . The dining area is located along windows facing the street . This restaurant is handicap doable and recommended. Service was prompt and friendly and efficient . Maya and Yvonne were both welcoming and professional. 👍👍 I ordered a sunomono, the vegetable udon , a king salmon toro sashimi and a otoro sashimi. Everything was delicious but the real reason to come here is for the fish..............and Master Masa did not disappoint!!!!!!!!!!! Wow Wow Wow-------the king salmon , recommended by Masa was amazing. Fresh, buttery and loaded with an oversupply of omega 3 , the king salmon was superb. The Otoro sashimi --- the super fatty belly of the tuna was off the charts!!!!!!! This otoro, dipped very lightly into the soy sauce was a melt-in-yo-mouth incredible experience . I would eat these 2 types of sashimi bombs 3 times a day..............if I could afford it!!!!!!! ❤️❤️😍 Final take--------- If you appreciate fresh , delicious sushi/sashimi make it an absolute point to stop in at Shinsen and treat yourself to Vancouver's finest. GO! Highly recommended.

This is a place to take a date. It’s very cool looking and people were friendly. However, trying to be in my opinion, too hip, there was a disconnect for me for consistency. We ordered tea and they don’t have traditional Japanese tea cups but large floral mugs with handles, on top of that the tea they serve was a lemon ginger tea. I didn’t think that paired well with sushi so asked if they had any green tea and they only had one tea bag left. I ordered the Chirashi sushi and usually at most Japanese restaurants, it’s accompanied with miso soup. Here it’s not. My wife ordered the chef sushi special and had to order a bowl of rice (additional charge). She also ordered the fresh wasabi vs the powdered one most restaurants use and it was $6 for like a 1/2 tsp amount. The quality of the fish was very good but on my chirashi, usually they serve 2-3 slices of various fish. Here, there was only one of some types and it was served was with seaweed salad. Usually they are flavored with mirin, yuzu, etc, This was just seaweed with no flavor.. disappointing. My wife’s dish was pretty but a lot of the volume was fluff. Overall not a bad place but if you’re a sushi lover, maybe try it but probably will be disappointed like I was… probably won’t go back

We sat in the lounge/bar which felt swanky and nice. I’ve been eating sushi for 35 years and I can safely say this is some of the best quality fish I have ever come across. I’m a huge hamachi fan and their hamachi toro made my head explode. It was stellar! My wife got the waterfront roll and I got the Miller roll. I appreciate the fact their rolls feature the fish front and center and aren’t completely covered in eel sauce or spicy mayo. The shrimp in my roll was incredibly flavorful and not a flavor you’d expect to jump out at you. Her roll was amazing as well. Our tuna hand rolls were also perfect. Lots of fish and fresh ingredients within. Overall, we were blown away at the nigiri, rolls, and hand rolls. The gal we had serving us was incredibly friendly and great to chat with. The staff here seems so down to earth and kind. Really good vibes in that place. Overall, we were absolutely blown away. This is a high quality place that is worth every penny. Good luck going back to regular sushi after trying what they offer! Thank you guys again. We will be back soon!

I have no idea who has been writing sponsored reviews for this place, but here’s a rundown of what you can ACTUALLY expect:

We went on a Tuesday amidst a rush of three (3) other patrons. It took 22 minutes to get water. We ordered drinks and food, as we had more than ample time to check the menu. After our drinks order was placed, the bartender spent a good amount of time showing a buddy something extremely important on her phone, and only bothered to get to them after our server asked her to do so a second time. Meanwhile, another staff member needed to take a break to drive his RC car outside the restaurant… just like you see at James Beard and Michelin Star restaurants.

Once the food showed up, they were three of their signature rolls. To say that the flavor was delicate would be an understatement… they had next to no flavor at all. Also, if you like light fluffy rice and rolls that are cut in slices varying from 1/2” to 2”… this is the place for you!

$187 later, we were out the door and regretting our decision. To be fair, the cocktails were pretty tasty, and totally would’ve been worth the $22-$24 price point had bartending been in the top three priorities on the bartender’s...
