We give LOTS of grace during a holiday. That said, 2023 Easter Brunch was a disaster. Made reservations about 3 weeks early. Called in 2 weeks prior to add 2 additional people (4 to 6). Even though I asked politely and told them it was OK if not due to holiday, after making me feel like I completely put them out, they were able to change for us. Had illness hit some of our people so 3 days prior I called and apologized but changed us to 3. They actually said "we're not sure why you're calling to tell us". Easter day, we were seated immediately. Drink order was slow (mimosa and bloody mary) and food took forever (understandable for a holiday). Their "family style" opener was 3 sm muffins, 3 tiny wedges of a basic Danish and a plop of cut up fruit. No plates. No spoons to serve with. After repeated asks for plates some finally were dropped off, still nothing to serve with. Second course was about 30 min later but really good. No family style and a mix of chilled salads and asparagus. No more then 5 min into our cold course they brought our main course. I tried to say we weren't ready but they were trying to take our uneaten plates and shoving things over on our table. The waitress was RUDE. They didn't return to remove the salad plates and we finally stopped a bus person to ask them to remove so we could eat.
Main course was disgusting. The ham was tiny, prime rib GRAY ( and unable to cut with our only knife a butter knife), a literal round ice cream plop of scrambled eggs and cold potatoes. At this point we had asked for water refills 3 times, never did get one. We had asked for coffee refills, they filled 1/2 and walked away. We asked for a steak knife, never did get one. All 3 main meals were left uneaten. When pointed out to our server she literally shrugged. Final dessert was dropped. Again "family style" with no plates and no silverware. We asked for both and finally got spoons. The shortcake you couldn't serve and the TINY brownie and rice crispy couldn't be divided.
We waited 15 min for our bill and another 15 for someone to take our payment. They charged us for items we didn't have. Ended up going to the bar to pay. Server literally had 5 tables..and spent time chatting to the bar tender.
I've been here probably 50 times for lunches and dinners. There has been a steep decline in the quality of food and service. Just sad because this used to be a good place. I just won't be...
Read moreTwigs is in a great location on the Vancouver waterfront, with good indoor and outdoor seating. It's clean with tables placed far enough apart to not feel cramped. Inside, you might get lucky enough as a table of 2 to be sat next to a gas fireplace in the colder months.
I rate the service as a 2 star, not because the wait staff is bad, irritating, or inattentive. It is put as a 2-star because of two things. The last two lunches I ordered here came with the included side-salad when I ordered the pear and beet salad. I was also charged both times for the pear and beet salad, showing the wait staff heard and wrote down my order properly. The mistake comes from the kitchen not paying attention and the wait staff not double-checking correctness before bringing the food out. Both times, I went ahead and ate what I was given, because I didn't want to wait until the waiter came back around. (I am weird and always eat my salad first). And, honestly, the regular salad is good. This mistake alone is not enough to warrant a 2-star rating for service. What does bring me there is that we had waited on a list to eat here because the timeline given to wait still meant we'd be in early enough for brunch, which is what we were looking for. We were seated at 1:40, and their brunch menu is posted as going until 2:00. When we were given just a lunch menu, we asked if they were still serving brunch (fully expecting our waiter to say, "Yes, of course, let me get you brunch menus"). He said "Let me check". He walked to the kitchen, I believe, came back and said "No, we're not". This is at 1:45, at the latest. I believe the kitchen made this decision, but whomever it was, that is just very poor service. As a restaurant, stick to your advertised schedule or have a really good reason to give your customers as to why you can't. And as a server, look at your watch, realize there's still 20 minutes left for brunch hours and just go get the menus. I'm sure the kitchen is not going to say "No" when you bring them a brunch order at 1:50. Also, ensure your customers get what they ordered before you walk their plates out.
I still recommend Twigs, as the location is good, the food deserves a good 4-star, and the staff are friendly. The cocktails are also well-made. Overall service, mostly due to the kitchen, needs to be addressed,...
Read moreMy wife and I have tried both Twigs in Spokane in the past and really enjoy those experiences so we were looking forward to last nights outing with friends. Unfortunately, it was nothing like our previous experiences.
Atmosphere: It's nice that it's on the Vancouver Waterfront, but the atmosphere wasn't anything special. I didn't doc any points for that, just saying it wasn't anything to write home about.
Service: We had a waiter in the beginning who was really nice and friendly, then they swapper with this other guy who was frankly one of the worst waiters we've had in a long time. Not attentive, not friendly, definitely didn't feel the good vibes from this dude. My receipt says Christian, but I couldn't tell you if that's correct or not since the first guy swapped for the second.
Food/Drink: 1st of all Drinks... What an absolute disappointment. My wife tried 2 different martinis, I tried a martini and an Old Fashioned, our friend had a long island. NONE of them were good. NONE!!! So incredibly shocked by this. It's a martini bar and they were not good! Food was just okay. It was definitely lackluster and felt like it was done for a bit before they served it to us. This could be the server, or maybe just how it is, but really disappointed all around.
Value: I would say for happy hour you'd initially think the drinks are a good price, but for how they tasted, I would say not worth it. For the food, definitely not worth it. Almost $30 for a pasta that was just as good as home, almost $20 for a burger that was the same... Honestly, it's a tough call if I'd want to spend $90-$100 again to see "IF" it'd be better.
Overall: Would my wife and I return? I can't help but feel like we'd like to give it another chance due to the amazing experiences we had in Spokane, but it's a tough call that would we want to gamble a similar experience for a $90-$100 meal again? All I can see is that it really bursted our bubble of excitement...
