I decided not to stay in downtown Portland because of the serious crime problems there, so I chose this hotel as an alternative. The Hotel Indigo Vancouver has an excellent location in Vancouver downtown while also providing good access to Portland and especially PDX airport, which is only about 10-15 minutes away by car. Please note these travel times will of course be notably higher during rush hours, especially morning rush into Oregon. The location on the Columbia River is wonderful, but travelers should be aware of several sources of noise: the hotel is in the PDX airport flight path, and nearby a railway viaduct, so guests will definitely hear airplane and freight train noise during their stay. This does not bother me - if fact, I like airplane and train noise, but other guests should be aware. Other noise considerations include the fact that the hotel is in a developing nightlife area on the Vancouver waterfront, with associated party noise and showoffs revving their motorcycles and Dodge Challengers outside. This can be somewhat annoying, and the hotel gives you earplugs to compensate. This is nice, but it raises the likelihood you will sleep through your alarm. The outside noise isn’t too bad on weeknights. Parking, which involves metered parking or use of valets, wasn’t a problem for me, but it could become a hassle as this area becomes more crowded in the future. The hotel charges $45 for valet parking, which I consider to be very expensive, and which I did not use. Guests who don’t want to bother with the metered parking, however, might want to go ahead and pay up for the valet, especially as your car will be garaged. Metered parking is available in various areas close to the hotel, and is free from 6PM to 8AM. If you plan to leave your car in metered parking during the day, you can prepay the night before to cover 8-10AM, but you will need to renew your parking every two hours. It is best to use the Parking Kitty app for this, which allows you to pay for parking while away from your car. While Vancouver appears much safer than downtown Portland, Vancouver still has some of the same problems, so I strongly recommend leaving nothing in your car if you use metered parking. Metered parking can be hard to find during peak nightlife hours from Friday to Sunday. The hotel rooms themselves are rather classy and have very effective air conditioning and heating, a big plus. You can easily switch from one to the other, and the horrible AC motion sensors that disreputable hotels use are not to be found here. The beds are quite comfortable. There is a spacious mini refrigerator in the room (no freezer though) as well as a capsule espresso maker. The bathroom has a “rain” shower and a detachable shower head/hose, although you cannot activate both at the same time. I found water pressure to be a little weak in the shower. Investigation by a very knowledgeable Engineer from the hotel found that the water pumps are in the basement. I suggest water pressure may be better on lower floors (I was on the 6th). A nice feature in the bathroom is a motion sensor on the shower light - it will switch off automatically after about 5 minutes, and switch back on when you walk into the bathroom. This is quite helpful at night. The hotel building includes two restaurants, a liquor store, and a coffee shop in the ground floor and a fancy lounge on the 7th floor with great views of the Columbia River (note: 20% service charge on all transactions at the lounge). You cannot currently bill to your hotel room at any of these locations, so keep that in mind before you spend any money there. The hotel says they are working on arrangements for the dining facilities to bill to your room. This Hotel Indigo is a great choice for the Portland/Vancouver area, and even makes a great airport hotel. The drawbacks are noise and parking, which are not too much of a problem. Please note that the Vancouver waterfront is continuing development near this hotel, with other hotels, restaurants, and a convention center. This will likely cause prices and noise at the hotel to go up, as well as creating more parking issues. However, if you can book this hotel at a reasonable price or use points, it represents an excellent alternative to the IHG properties in Portland and near the airport, many of which are old or are located in unsafe areas. With a great location on the Columbia River, outstanding access to I-5, I-205 (via Washington Route 40), and PDX Airport, the Hotel Indigo Vancouver should be one of your first choices for the...
Read moreFine hotel but not great for the price. Location is lovely as it is right on the water with a beautiful view and there are restaurants and shops along the waterfront. Check in was easy and staff was pleasant. Valet service was terrific but expensive at 45.00 dollars a night. The Valets were attentive and fast. If you self park, you need to park in a garage that is a 2 minute walk from the hotel or try and park on the street which I would not recommend. Overall the food at 13 Coins was average. 13 Coins staff were very nice. Wine selection was good. Service was slow. The booth we sat in was connected to the adjacent booth so every time someone got in or out of the booth on the other side, our seat went up and down like a bouncy house. Coffee shop staff were pleasant and the coffee was good. Grab and Go food selection in the coffee shop was so-so. El Gaucho is very good. The Witness Tree roof top bar has a beautiful view with beautiful outdoor seating. There is generally a waiting list for outside seating. They had nice selection of wines and cocktails. Food selection is very pricey with small portions (think sous vide). We ordered via Uber Eats later that evening because we were still hungry. Server at the WT, Joel, was great and did a great job of checking in with us while we waited for food/drinks - It was slow but not his fault. Room was nicely appointed and very clean. Bed was comfortable. Pillows were really soft. It is very noisy at night. If you are a light sleepy you might consider head phones. There were trains and planes as well as loud cars and street racing. It was not restful. The Hotel has a very small pantry in the lobby and they do not have things like razors or contact lens solution to purchase but they do have tooth brush/tooth paste available. I did call to ask about a charge on my portfolio related to an issue with my reservation. When I called the front desk to ask about it, the hotel staff was not very helpful in resolving the issue. I think ultimately she may have been new to her position and didn't know the answer, but I am sure with some experience will be better able to help. One thing, she thought she put me on hold, but did not, at least right away, and I could hear her making unprofessional remarks about our conversation to another guest and staff member. I think I could hear her rolling her eyes. I believe she had no intention of returning to my call because as she put it, she was really busy and had no time to chat. After check out, I was told a manager would reach out but never did. Also I was told that there is no manager to help make changes or trouble shoot issues on the the weekend. Oh well! I think the hotel has a lot of pros and is trying to create a vibe on the waterfront but has room to grow. I do travel a lot and stay in a variety of IHG...
Read moreI stayed at Hotel Indigo for the first time last week during a conference for work.
Location: The hotel is located in the middle of a new developed center. All the buildings have luxury condos on top and restaurants at the bottom. This expands for several blocks. There are burgers places, coffee, a brewery, sushi across the street, etc. The area was very walkable. My conference was at Hilton which was a straight 5-minute walk from Indigo. The river is on the south side of the hotel and I enjoyed the river walk with my coffee.
Customer service: Check-in was a breeze. My experience with the staff was great. Very helpful at giving me directions to nearby places and answering questions. Checkout was just as quick and easy. I didn't drive so can't speak on valet outside of them being helpful everytime I hit the wrong elevator button (happened twice).
Amenities: Hotel has two restaurants inside. One through the lobby and the other "the witness tree" is on the 8th floor with a roof top. The Witness tree only offers bits (appetizers) with some nice drinks. There is also a cafe in the lobby and a store to buy liquor and the restaurant 13 coins next door. On the second floor is another lounge area and meeting space which has a beautiful christmas tree at the moment.
The room: I had a partial river view king on the 8th floor. I'm from the city so having a view of another building is not an issue. The room had new slippers in the drawer and came with makeup wipes, Q-tips, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and hand lotion. There's some construction going on I'm assuming that's why the hotel provided ear plugs. I'm a light sleeper and surprisingly didn't need them. I also appreciate that they provided 2 free water bottles in the room. The HVAC, was pretty loud. I turned the fan portion of it to low and ran it while I was at the conference. It was warm when I get back that I didn't need to run it all night. But again it didn't bother me as it would having a cold room.
Perks: The hotel manager Jennifer did wine tasting for our group which was great. What a funny person, her personality was fantastic. Also want to add the hotel is less than 3 years old so it still smells pretty new. The decor is chic with a woody feel. The lobby has a beautiful glass fireplace with plus seating. I had a quick meeting there and was great.
Over 10/10 across the board. I...
