I’ve been to this location on MANY occasions but unfortunately after witnessing another customer essentially being called a liar after saying his drink didn’t taste right, by who I’m assuming is the manager, I’ll never return. The customer was extremely polite, and didn’t “demand” any specific resolution, except a comparable drink(which he did very nicely). But the manager continued to tell him there is no way his drink could be bad. I witnessed the whole interaction and immediately left in shock.
EDIT: Since the owner responded to my original review I wanted ensure my review is clear. I was present prior to this gentleman arriving, and I left about 3 minutes after he left. The gentleman and manager was about 6-8 feet away from me during this interaction and never did I hear the gentleman use profanity or raise his voice. The guy DID get frustrated at the end after essentially being called a liar, which anyone understandably would. I also did want to mention he asked for a different drink, after the manager saying there was nothing else they DID give him a refund — but the damage was already done after the managers initial response. As for the employee crying, I did not witness that — but I was not in the kitchen. Lastly, the owners response “customer was happily given a refund because he didn’t like the taste of the beer” shows the manager didn’t listen and lack of empathy to a customer. He stated the beer was actually bad. He offered multiple times to just get something new or even for others to just taste it so you weren’t serving others bad beer. He originally even suggested you may want to change out the beer altogether because it was bad.
What is truly weird is I am a bias third-party and the owner is calling ME a...
Read moreSkip this place. Don’t go here. The food is mediocre, the staff is either new or incredibly unhelpful. We ordered a breakfast burrito, chilaquiles, iced americano and a strawberry matcha. I only ever write reviews for places I love, this is my first bad review.
Burrito $17 - so basic and bland, head to your local taco shop, you will get a burrito 10x’s better for 1/2 the cost.
Chilaquiles $17 - this easily could be a good dish, however, when it arrived it was missing the greens and radishes. I went in and asked what was up: they brought be 3 thick slices of unpeeled radish and informed me they were out of greens. There was maybe, if I am being generous, maybe 2 tiny slices of avocado. So chips, salsa, crema and cotija. 100% would have ordered something else. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do. I couldn’t change anything, they couldn’t refund anything, they couldn’t do a thing except “do better next time”
Iced Americano. It was fine, nothing special. When we went to add a splash of oat milk and bit of simple syrup, there wasn’t any. We asked if we could have some and the reply was “ we charge for simple syrup and oat milk, there is sugar over there”. So, if you want something that will dissolve in your iced drink and non dairy, make sure to ask ahead of time and pay for it.
Iced strawberry matcha with oat milk. Just very average. Weak matcha. It is fine, but if you want an AMAZING Strawberry matcha go to Churn on Mississippi on Portland. In fact, skip this place and get the most amazing brunch/lunch over there.
I dunno. I like to give places the benefit of a second go, I like to think people can have a bad day, but I just don’t think there is any way to wash this...
Read moreI think the owner’s responses to the negative reviews pretty much sums up why the service lacks. If the owner doesn’t know how to be professional one should not expect the staff to be better. Personal attacks, combativeness, and everything except taking responsibility for the experiences THEIR CUSTOMERS are having is never a good sign. 13 Coins is around the same for reviews but responds in a way that makes me want to give them a second chance. To be fair though, I think the attitudes of the baristas is from them being overwhelmed because the place can be disorganized.
I live over here and the Waterfront residents are increasingly becoming more community oriented now that a majority of the construction is over. My friend across the way had never had a bad experience at Kafiex and goes there every weekend. She was disappointed to see the responses by the owner. My husband and I went once and spent $72 on breakfast and drinks which had booze. It took a while to get the food but it was pretty good. The person who took the order was rude. The person who served it was great and there was another person I spoke to who was helpful. We went back a second time and the pastries were good, coffee decent, but yeah, we did not have a good experience with the person who took our order and have not been back. If we’re gonna give someone our business so they can pay for the retail space etc there needs to be a bit of an adjustment. In the end, 3.8 stars only hurts the biz, which hurts the staff. I suppose it’s all relative to needing...
