The wait is ridiculously long, but that's a well-known fact. When I went in last week, there was a sign up that said "15 minute wait," which I soon learned didn't include the extremely long line, and even beyond that, it was more of a 30 minute wait. That is way too long for overpriced sweet treats, even if the establishment was seen in Shark Tank or whatever. Sure, there was a LOT of people, but a cup of ice cream shouldn't take this long.
I ordered a scoop of the Cookie Monster ice cream. I thought that $6.75 (I think that was the price) was way too much for a medium scoop, but they gave me the works (which I think cost more than $10), and it was honestly delicious. I wish I had taken a picture since it looked honest, but my phone ran out of battery while I was waiting for my ice cream.
They are well-staffed, but I think there are too many cooks in the kitchen. When I was there, I saw two or three workers at a time standing around, doing nothing. However, I must commend the employees for being friendly and kind, which I bet is hard to do when you have to deal with so many customers. I'm also sure that many of them were not used to making intricate milkshakes and desserts, as not all ice cream places are like this one.
While they're this busy, I would say that they need a more efficient system. I saw some people ordering simple cups of ice cream and I honestly think that their orders should be scooped on the spot and they shouldn't have to wait behind long queues of milkshakes ahead of them. I'd say delegate a worker to doing that. I'm hoping that the hype will die down, but this might become a tourist attraction for some strange reason. That being said, I'd recommend the other ice cream places downtown for a much better price and much...
Read moreThis is a state fair gimmick- that’s what you're paying for. Sugar & hydrogenated oils in sprinkle, kid-cereal, day-old cookie/cake form. Plenty of folks are suckered in, then complain about getting ripped off. Cold Stone has more or less the same business model but with way worse quality ice cream. At least these guys here use blue bell which is a decent national brand. To avoid being gouged, stick to plain ice cream in a cup or buy a pint- just not one in a fancy glass jar unless you love overpaying for packaging! Curiously enough they actually don’t have a regular paper pint container; you have to trust the guy when he tells you that 1 pint = 3 scoops or 0.473 liters, etc. No way to verify how honest they are. One pint with no toppings/bells/whistles will cost you over $10 by the way, so buyer beware. This is excessive even by NYC and SF standards. Surely they could reconsider some of their price points especially for customers who want a simple pint to-go (not one in a fancy glass jar), and won’t be taking up employees' time with Metformin-worthy creations loaded with fruit-loops, gummy bears, cheesecake slices, bacon wrapped twinkies, etc. Finally, it’s important to know that “locally sourced” can mean a number of things: I can go to a nearby Safeway, buy their day-old baked goods and I technically “sourced them locally” 😉😉 If you’re staying at a nearby hotel and don’t have a rental car, this place is an OK option for a quick ice cream scoop. If you’re able to venture out further, please visit Ice Cream Renaissance on Main Street in Vancouver, WA. They actually make their ice cream in-house and...
Read moreFor the price they should make the seating better. The side door facing west was locked. The open door was on the south side but partially blocked by a group of people at a table. One lady was too absorbed in her own world taking photos to realize we needed to get through. So we had to hop over the barrier rope. Once in, it was nothing unusual. The menu was a bit too much for me, so we opted for a regular shake.
Outside, they had high bar tables with regular seats. Meaning, if you sat down the table edge would be at your neck. Then at the low picnic like tables on the side they had the same seats. So if you sat down you couldn't scoot under the table. Someone clearly did not think this through.
The staff was friendly, but not over the top enough for me to want to return.
Update: I'm clarifying my review per the owner's response. The issue with the tables being up to standards of the city is not what I'm talking about. What I am talking about are the CHAIRS being too low or not high enough. I'm 5'3", I sat in the chair in the photo attached. The edge of the table was at my neck. We moved to the tables by the window. The same black stools were at the tables. The stool seating height is the table height, therefore one cannot scoot their legs under the table. There were benches that went with the tables, but not all tables had the benches.
As far as the menu...It being too much for me was items being too overloaded to find appetizing.
But thanks for clarifying about the door. Is there a sign on it that says use the...
