Outstanding flavor of carne asada. Some d-bag complained in another review that he could taste lemon on carne asada. That's how carne asada stays moist, lemon juice is sprayed on the meat while it's cooking. It's the Mexican way of cooking. There's nothing wrong with it. if you don't like your food done this way, you just don't like Mexican food so stop Rating Mexican food places.
The pork with green sauce was also pretty good. I'm not usually a carne asada fan but definitely this place has outstanding carne asada. I know I'm repeating myself, and from pass reviews I usually compare places' Al pastor to King Taco. This place is carne asada beats king taco. I feel so weird saying that, so don't be afraid to try the carne asada plate or have a carne asada burrito. Unfortunately and never got a chance to try their Al pastor meat. I thought we would come back to eat here another time and I was going to try it then. I should have tried an Al pastore taco just to be able to compare it for you guys to King Taco.
Refried beans we're great also. I got a free guacamole tableside for doing a check in on Yelp. So be sure to check Yelp first and do a checking in front of them. Guacamole was not as spicy as I like it, but I just added some of the red salsa and it was perfect.
They have a full salsa bar that you can taste different salsa's. Their green salsa and red salsa flavor is outstanding. If you like it really hot go with a red, if you like it medium go with the green, if your a sissy stick with a mild pico de gallo or mild salsa. Mexican food is 90% salsa so if you find outstanding salsa flavor it automatically adds three stars in my book. The carne asada by itself gets 5 stars that don't think I'm waiting at 5 search just because of the salsa.
We saw a boat load of people coming in for orders that they had placed through an app or on the phone. That tells me this place is meeting the needs of repeat customers.
Our food was done in about 5 to 10 minutes from just walking in...
Read moreMy partner & I live in Long Beach, CA. but were in Santa Paula for most of the day to adopt a dog (from the Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center-Adopt and/or Donate money or supplies!) & by the time we finished it had been a long day and we were HUNGRY! So, before hitting the traffic & the hours long drive we went on the search for GOOD, SATISFYING food. Having been to Ventura several times in the past but not being exactly familiar with it, all we kept finding was the same old, greasy, fast food places. Almost ready to give up & head home, we thankfully stumbled across De La Cruz Authentic Mexican Cuisine! Their food, especially their tortillas, chicken & guac, is really delicious AND their portion sizes are large AND they have reasonable prices AND the staff is friendly and quick. This restaurant is not one of those run of the mill mexican food places with an assembly line that have a refried bean slurry from a can, boil-in-a-bag meat and pre-cut vegetables from the day before which are sloped onto a store bought tortilla, folded & labeled 'burrito'. De La Cruz is just the opposite, with fresh vegetables, fresh tasty chicken (which looks & tastes like it is grilled), refried beans, guacamole, tortillas (I would swear that they are home made & be shocked if they're not) &, although it may seam strange to say, the cheese that they use is fresh tasting & really good too. NONE of the food we ate was greasy in taste or texture and that's hard to come by with mexican restaurants. De La Cruz Authentic Mexican Cuisine is VERY HIGHLY suggested by me & my partner! Although it is not exactly freeway close, definitely make it a point to eat there when you are in the area. We ordered: ALC Taquitos; Chicken El Burro; Chicken Quesadilla; Cheese Quesadilla; El Tres Caminos; and 8 oz. guacamole. Thank you De La Cruz...
Read moreThis is probably my favorite Mexican food place.
Now, I'm going to be honest. My food palate is not the most sophisticated. So I am perfectly content with eating low quality food. In fact I actually very much enjoy it!
But this place, this place does not serve low quality food. Basically anything you order is going to be really tasty, and have a taste to it than just feels a step up from normal fast food places.
It's honestly about the same, if not less expensive than other places like Chipotle, Baja fresh ect ect. And in my opinion, the food here tastes better than all of those places!
It usually isn't that busy, and they make your food pretty quick. So if you're thinking for just a quick bite to eat for lunch, or a place to take your whole family, it doesn't really matter! You can do it all! lol
The atmosphere is also just fantastic, and with the food being so good, while also not being that expensive.. Well, you know this one's a five-star for me. Fantastic...
