Anytime I am in Oxnard or Ventura I will try to eat here. LOVE their house salad with chicken...I get it every single time. Even if I decide to try something else there, I will always ALSO get one of those because they are just too good. I like to get the dressing on the side because it is pretty large and if you want to save some for the next day the dressing of course makes the lettuce soggy and gross when sitting for a long time. There is not a lot of seating there and they are usually pretty busy, so most of the time I will just get my food to go. Keep in mind it says online that they close at I believe 6 or something but that is only for the bakery. If you want lunch they stop serving around 2 or 2:30 I think so I recommend calling just to make sure. They also have great quiches and if you like sweets they have lots and lots of options. The cow cookies are adorable and delicious which we used to get all the time but now that our diets have changed they are no longer an option for us. Would be nice if they had some gluten free items...if they did, I would...
Read moreThis is only a review on the baked goods from Royal Bakery & Café, so keep that in mind. Their sandwiches and salads actually looked pretty darn tasty, so I might have to go back and try some of those.
As far as the baked goods, we tried the chocolate chip cookies (without nuts), the blackout cookie, a pear and berry coffeecake and a fruit tart. Overall, I can’t really complain, but I can’t really dream about them either. They’re decent, but not amazing.

The coffeecake was kind dry. This let me down the most. I get that coffeecake should be dry, as it goes with coffee, but it was dry to the tune of over-baked, not necessarily intentional.
As you might expect being in a growing area, the fruit tart had some decent fruit. Plus, the shell wasn’t too shabby, though the custard was a touch eggy.
Overall, adequate, but not...
Read moreA friend of mine told me that their pastry and cakes are good (Also I check online they have good reviews) so I told my hubby to buy a 6-8 inch. round cake, white with strawberry filling and frosting. My hubby called me when he was in the cafe because he told me that the cake was expensive $34-44 but I told him it's ok because of my high expectation and thought with that price the cake will be good and delicious. I'm sorry but Royal Cafe and Bakery is over price and the cake is bad, the bottom of the cake is burned. I can't barely see the cake because of very very thick whip cream frosting (in other words, it's all whip cream) and the strawberry filling is sour. My husband told me, "we got robbed!" We won't go back to this place, very disappointed! AND I tried the cookies and such, no...
