China Star — Restaurant in Vernon Township

Honestly...... I wouldn't and didn't feed this to my compost pile. Rubbery clumps of impressively dark noodles (Vegetable Lo Mein with a sprinkle of broccoli & a few slivers of onions), excessively oily Egg Drop soup and Dumpling soup (similar to drinking canola oil), over abundance on the bland breading on the (shrimp & chicken). Hey, enough soy sauce was provided to wash it down. I wasn't expecting top notch. I also wasn't expecting food of this quality. I placed our order a few minutes after 3pm. I'll chaulk it up to my mistake of ordering between the lunch/dinner window. All in all the pan fried dumplings were decent. If you're against wasting food that's great but sending out orders that are obviously filled with days old food is unacceptable. The photo provided is straight out of the carton approx 3 minutes after delivery....

I moved to Sussex County recently, originally from Passaic. And sadly it’s starting to seem like most restaurants in this area are sub-par. China Star seems to be one of them. The first time I ordered the food was okay. Not bad, not great, just okay. I figured I’d give it a couple of more tries to see if it was an off day. I’ve tried it 4 times since then, and sadly, the first time I ordered has been the best the food ever was. The lo mein is too oily, “crispy” dishes are mush by the time its delivered/ready for pickup, and the dumplings are better categorized as dough balls. Not only that, but service has been exceptionally slow. Food takes forever to be ready, yet is lukewarm and soggy by the time you eat it, which really makes no sense. I don’t think I’ll be going back here again. I’ll drive to Passaic County for better Chinese...

This place is incredible! They know how to do “good business”. A dear friend of mine just welcomed a new baby in New Jersey. I wanted to bless her family with a meal; but I live more than 1,000 miles away in Colorado. I called and spoke with Kyle. He was so kind and understanding. He helped me place an order, schedule a pick up time, and promised to “make it special” for them 💗 When our friends arrived to pick up their food. Kyle and his team were so welcoming!
