JRB MEXICAN GRILL — Restaurant in Vernon Township

TL:DR - Delicious food & kind people!

Been looking forward to trying this place, ever since I saw its sign go up. When I saw it was open, I decided to give it a try tonight. If you’re familiar with the parking lot, it’s usually pretty packed around dinner time, so if you can’t find a spot, you can park down by Wings next door and walk up the hill. There is one accessible spot right out front.

The menu is basically burritos, tacos, & quesadillas - all of which are customizable. It’s kind of set up like a Subway, where you go along the bar and let them know what you’d like. Their tortillas are freshly made, so if you’re getting tacos, skip the store bought hard shells and go for the freshly made soft ones! Since I wanted to get a feel of their menu, I decided to order a burrito and two different kinds of tacos.

Pork burrito - good balance of rice vs. other fillings - generous portions of pork in there. She also managed to put in all of the other ingredients I wanted to include. She recommended the red sauce on the side (thank you) because it was pretty spicy. It was delicious, and the tortilla was soft and tasty.

Steak taco, chicken taco - again, get the fresh tortillas. She put these on the grill & sprinkled them with cheese, letting it melt before putting in the meat. Off the grill she added toppings, and wow they smelled amazing. These were fantastic. The steak was tender & just seasoned enough, and the chicken was the same. The melted cheese really (literally) brought it all together. I should have gotten more tacos!

She also gave me a portion of warm tortilla chips with my order, and the container of red sauce. Will definitely be going back here...

I ordered online for curbside pickup. I really wanted to like this place. My order was wrong; they said they would update the app and remade the order after the owner (who was on his cellphone the whole time) explained to me I only ordered 1 birria taco (I ordered the trio) and had the option to pay $1.50 for each one on the app but I did not. I had to wait longer than anticipated and pick it up from inside vs curbside which was also an option on their app. When I cut open my “chicken” burrito it looked like a vegetable sushi wrap. More rice than anything and I kid not, maybe 5 small pieces total of chicken. The birria was tough to chew and barely had any birria sauce, I’m glad I asked for a small dipping container on the side. I really wanted to like this place but my first experience was really disappointing. I understand it’s a new business so hopefully the longer they’re open the...

So first thoughts are they need to get organized fast, no one knew who was taking who’s order, they need to work on there system and have one person at each station instead of people running all over the place, all of them seem young so I’m guessing it’s all family but other than that the food is very good, very tasty, tacos where great and so was the bowl, they seem like good people, apparently they aren’t from the area which I was surprised since most small business owners in vernon are usually from the area. I will definitely be back and hope they get better organized, and will update my review...
