Atami Japanese Grill — Restaurant in Vicksburg

Atami has been slowly decreasing the quality of their food (and service) for quite a while now. My dinner there tonight was the final nail in the coffin however. Our server would only serve us from one side of the table, even though there was plenty of room for them to come around to take people’s orders and deliver the food. The people closer to his side had to pass down heavy plates of hot food, this is very awkward and forces anxiety on the customer unnecessarily. The server also did not give us one item we asked for because they could not hear me from the far side of the table.

I am thankful I did not order sushi, because I saw one person behind the sushi bar dip their finger into a refill container of pink sauce and then PROCEED TO LICK HIS BARE FINGER AND CONTINUE TO HANDLE FOOD PREP ITEMS WITHOUT WASHING THEIR HANDS. I asked our server to grab the manager, the server brought over someone who was clearly a go-between for the customers and management. And then the manager talked to the Finger Licker right in front of me. So now Finger Licker knows my face. If I wasn’t already permanently repulsed, now I really...

I used to like Atame but they have gone downhill. I ordered a sashimi bento box. The waiter brought a sushi bento instead. I tried to get his attention but he never glanced my way so I flagged down the busboy and told him about the mistake. He said he would pass it on but no one came to the table to correct the mistake. As time was running on I decided to go ahead and eat the sushi as it was apparent that I would not have time to wait for them to correct the mistake. The fish was not at the freshness level that was appropriate to be eaten raw. It was dry and obviously not freshly sliced as it should have been. I did eventually speak to the waiter who admitted the mistake but refused to make any gesture of compensation for his mistake. I was very disappointed in the service and quality of the food. I used to be impressed with Atame but will not eat there again. On the bright side my friend had a hibachi bento and said it was quite good. If you like bland this is the place for you... I said something when I was asked how was everyting? I said you don't want to know... she smiled and said you like everyting?" I said no it was all bland, I asked the girl about the spicy tuna and she said right off I'm sorry they will not let me take it off your ticket, then had the guts to tell me the "hot stuff" was mixed in with the tuna and is why it had a red tint... i hope she learns more about sushi... i hope the management does better job then to say everyone taste is different... i hate i had to leave a one star!
