I went to have lunch at Rusty's Riverfront Grill in Vicksburg, Ms. on 6-25-3025. I live in another state and normally stop to eat lunch or dinner when passing through . I've been there on 5 different occasions with never an issue. However, today was very different. I ordered grilled oysters and was shocked to see them covered with sautéed onions, spices and cheese. I'm allergic to onions and didn't know that onions were part of the dish. I scrapped the onions off of 2 oysters, but became sick and had to push the plate away. The server came by and acted as if she didn't see the plate of oysters in front of her. She asked me how my lunch was and i told her about the onions and she apologized and left the table. She acted as if i hadn't said anything about my meal, nor did she pre bus the table, but left the plate right where i set it. A few moments went by and I started to feel nauseated and had to rush to the restroom. I threw up on my shirt and in the sink. I was shocked to see my ticket on the table with the oysters on it. I could not believe that I was being charged for a meal.I could not eat and actually made me sick. So I asked another server to bring the manager to my table. The manager was very nice. She thenbexplained to me that sense, it was clearly stated on the menu that onions were part of the dish; that she was not going to refund my meal. I told her that I only ate two oysters and I got sick in the bathroom. I even showed her the wet spots on my shirt, where I had to clean my shirt from what happened in the restroom. That's when she rolled her eyes at me and made some snide comment and walked away. I did not hear what she said, but she was clearly upset. This is the first time i've ever been treated this way at this particular restaurant. However, I will make sure that I'm never treated this way again. As I will never come back there. There are simply too many choices in any given city, where one does not have to take such a poor and negative attitude while bringing an issue two managements attention. Then I started getting the looks from her and the other servers, as she's telling them the story which didn't make me feel bad, but did prompt me to leave this review. So Rusty's, thank you for great service and food on my previous visits, but shame on you for how I was treated today. Your choice in management is poor in my opinion and she has never been trained properly in customer care, how to treat others when facing the minimum amount of adversity and how to increase sales over last year through teamwork, communication and...

Review for visitors and travelers! We were in Vicksburg to visit family and we decided to try Rusty's for dinner due to the high ratings here and on Tripadvisor but was the most regrettable $119 ($140 with tip) spent on a dinner for two. We started w/fried calamari and fried green tomatoes but requested the hollandaise/crab sauce on the side. Nothing extraordinary about either except both were coated with the same batter which gave similar texture and flavor; and the hollandaise sauce was left on the side as it was oily with hardly any crab but a few strands. For the main course, I ordered the crab cakes and gumbo. Gumbo was salty but flavorful w/al dente rice with an assortment of seafood, mainly small shrimp which were all mushy. At first bite, I thought it may be just a bad apple, but the next one was just as mushy and disgusting. Crab cakes were flat, dry and mainly bread crumbs/filling. If you're expecting some scrumptious lump crab meat, do not order! Although I hate wasting food, couldn't continue after the first bite. Husband ordered the filet mignon w/green beans, creamed spinach and loaded baked potato. Steak was cooked to order and beans tasted freshly blanched/steamed. They do charge extra for any side that is not $3 so we were charged an additional $1 for the spinach as it was $4 and $4.50 for the loaded potato since entrees come with only two sides. In addition to the foregoing, we had a glass of water and coke. We would have gladly paid the $140 had the food been worthy of such price tag. Husband and I agreed that we would have gotten better quality food at a Chili's or equivalent for a 1/3 of the price. Lastly, they also automatically include a 3% "convenience charge" which I have no idea what it's for. We still paid an additional 18% tip as it's not the waitress/staff's fault for such poor quality food. Just wanted to give a heads up to those like us who may be looking for some good food while in town and contemplating due to the...

I’m terribly sorry to report that this was a horrible experience. I have a feeling that the food should have been amazing before sitting under the heat lamp for (we guess because we could see it) about 30 minutes

The waitress kept walking past us and would not take our drink orders - husband finally went to the bar himself…

We knew a convention was in town so we were second in line to get in at 5pm. The first sat at the bar so we were a two-top and ready to order immediately.

The two (10? 15?) tops were served food long before us. Other four tops had their food before we even ordered.

When I as politely as possible mentioned to the waitress that we noticed she’d turn her back to us and not answer to her name (even one foot away at the next table) she flipped out a bit- saying that basically we are not important because she has a ten top… so many excuses and when we pointed out that a two top which ordered before a 10(?) too was fully seated was still waiting for food AFTER the ten top was nearly finished she got really mad and said she’d been apologizing- we were not sure what to say because making excuses and blaming others (the ten top couldn’t have frAzzled her out they seemed polite and well mannered)…. That’s not an apology. We didn’t even want an apology we wanted service.

Meanwhile we could see the other servers working their tails off and servicing their tables well.

Husbands grouper was like rubber. My meal was so dried out.. no insult to the chef - I don’t care how good a chef is it will be ruined when left out that long.

We said no thank you to the manager visit and the manager came anyway and was SO LOUD. I asked her - because she was drawing so much attention- to join us and she very rude toned informed us she was much too busy and then she wanted to argue with us about the food.

We will...

First- parking is limited along the street. There is a lot up the hill behind the museum on Jackson Street or down below along the waterfront. During the bright afternoon, that’s fine but at night, the areas not along the street might be questionable. A sketchy person was eyeing our vehicle when we returned to our car. Service was excellent. Even during the lunch rush, there was less than a 10 minute wait. Waitress was very helpful and attentive. Please check out the menu online because there are so many choices. There is a lunch special every day. We chose the pick two with bay scallops broiled and a crab cake with a side salad and cheese grits. Lots of scallops! The crab cake was tasty and full of crab- not breading. The remoulade sauce was nice and tangy. The grits were nice and cheesy. The side salad was a mix of greens and iceberg lettuce with a pickled green bean and pickle okra and a half hard boiled egg. Their bleu cheese dressing is very unique and freshly made. It’s not a traditional bleu cheese at all ( husband hated it since he likes traditional bleu cheese). It’s more like a tartar sauce with dill and chunks of bleu cheese. The coconut shrimp was cooked perfectly and it was a huge platter full! The dipping sauce was sweet and spicy. If you are a fan of bread pudding, you will want to make room for this! The portion is gigantic. The bourbon sauce was perfect on this warm, tasty dish. There are other desserts too. They have a full bar, as well. Overall, a great restaurant with excellent food and wonderful service.

The best seafood we have tried so far while in Vicksburg. Our server, Christian, was very attentive and friendly, which is why we gave her a really nice tip. Here’s what we ordered: Apps: Calamari for me and crab cakes for my husband. Very good, especially the calamari. It’s very rare to find a tender, melt-in-your-mouth fried calamari, and we’ve tried them everywhere, including Italy. I could come back to this everyday. Drinks: Crabberry Margarita and Southern Pecan Beer. Both amazing! Main entree: Surf & Turf. Beef cooked at the requested temp. Bayou Grouper. Again, fish cooked just right and the hollandaise sauce made the dish. To go: Peanut Butter Pie. While I appreciate it not being too sweet as most desserts are, the cream used was way too thick and artificial like it came from a tub used for commercial frosting, instead of light, airy cream in great pies. My least favorite of all. Rant: upon reviewing our receipt, I noticed a “Convenience Fee” of 3%!!!! What is that?!? I have never seen this ridiculous charge for a restaurant before. This left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall, I would go back, but I would not be near the cream pies nor care about the convenience fee that inconveniences patrons.
