I don't give a 5 star rating easily, but the fried green tomatoes were the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. It's a funky sort of place, with old time farming equipment on the walls and to tell the truth the exterior looks a bit of a dump. Don't make the mistake I almost made and pass it up. The interior will never be featured in Southern Living, but if there was a jukebox no one played it, which i appreciated. The customers were few--it was Saturday at noon--but they represented a cross section of types, a family with children, a married couple, some laborers, a police officer, a guy who ate at the bar who looked like he could be on championship wrestling . I liked the mixture of people. I got the idea some of the diners were regulars. The Klondyke gets 5 stars for the food!!! The service was reasonably prompt and efficient and courteous without being overly chatty. I can't vouch for the rest of the food, because all I had were the fried green tomatoes, but I plan to go back to try the $10 ribeye steaks! I found the serving of tomatoes all I could eat. I'm usually pretty good about pushing away from the table and I'll admit at the halfway point I could have asked for a doggie bag, but I couldn't make myself stop. They were that good--well battered and topped with the most delicious crawfish sauce and a tad of comeback sauce, an invention of our friends down the highway in Jackson. It's like a spiced thousand island, not peppery, just delicious. Huge iced tea that I sipped on all afternoon. I've lived in Vicksburg 5. years and had visited almost weekly for years before that . I had never heard of the Klondyke, It is Vicksburg's best kept secret. I overheard another customer tell her family the Klondyke really swings on Saturday night. I do plan...
Read moreThe food and service was fantastic, but this place had some pretty major issues. The first issue I had is that smoking is allowed inside. This may be legal in that area of MS, but I would have probably avoided this place had I known before we arrived. I haven't been in any establishment in a very long time that allowed indoor smoking, and it was not a pleasant experience, so be aware if you are traveling and have sensitivity to cigarette smoke. The second issue is that they were out of about half of the food on the menu. I wanted need to go because their fried green tomatoes looked amazing on the photo we found online. They were out of them, all salad stuff, and the poboy bread. They have a beer case in the back, which is nice, but beware, as it smells strongly of fish when you open it. Also, their only toilet broke and would not flush. If we ever find ourselves in Vicksburg again, I might consider getting takeout if it is available, but I'll pass on dining in. The owner needs to invest some money into fixing up this place, deep cleaning the fridge, and put in better ventilation if they are going to continue to allow smoking indoors. It is a shame cause their Vickburger is fantastic. Their fried cauliflower was...
Read moreDo not recommend. Went out our way from I20 to have a nostalgic atmospheric good meal, because of the google ratings. WRONG.
First, the masks were mandatory, bu the cleanliness was COVID19 trap! it is so dark, and bar atmosphere, I thought we were in wrong place. Ceiling Lights needed to be replaced. Just burned out (maybe owner likes dim lighting so the condition of the kitchen can’t be seen)
Second, we placed hamburger order, happened to glance towards kitchen, and noticed wile our burgers are on the grill the two kitchen hands have their money out and cell phone out (both of which are super unsanitary) maybe Mississippi health department allows that kind of thing g, but I got sick at my stomach, thinking about them handling my food.
Third, our burgers were not complete. We’re out it mustard. Did not get jalapeño peppers as requested. The buns were cold and not toasted. I am spoiled to Outstanding burgers and by far this was a huge diet disappointment.
The hand cut (hope the hands were clean) French fries were great!( Hope the grease killed the...
