All in all, a pretty cool place and unique in downtown Vienna. I want to come back and visit when it's a little less crowded.
My daughter and I came here on a Saturday morning to grab a quick cup of coffee before we took on the day. On walking in, I was immediately struck by how small the place is. The space really isn't all that big and there are only about 5-7 tables throughout, so during busy periods (like when we went) it would be really tough to get a seat.
There was no line, so we went right up to the counter and placed our order. They don't do pour overs on the weekends, so I got a drip coffee and had it in my hand just a few seconds after ordering. After scanning the room, I realized that there were no tables available, so my daughter and I went outside and sat on a bench out there for a few minutes until the cold got to us. In total, I probably spent less than 3 minutes inside.
That's too bad, because I really enjoy getting to enjoy the atmosphere of a coffee shop and having a little time to enjoy and experience the coffee. That said, it was my mistake for coming here at a busy time and honestly, there's only so much you can do about the size of a building.
The drip coffee itself was okay, nothing to write home about – but that's drip coffee. I love that this place roasts their own beans and I would love to come back when they're doing pour overs and give it another shot.
Overall, this place has some cool potential and I want to try it again and will update my review after...
Read moreFRAME has a lot of potential; however, it falls short and not in the league of either Cafe Amouri or 29th parallel. The coffee shop should drop the pretense of speciality and just offer basic coffee drinks and sell its nice atmosphere as opposed to the promise of speciality and quality beans.
The Ode Fellow grinder on the counter was a bad omen of what was to come. The business only does pour overs (the only specialty offering) during the week and not on weekends. This, plus a home grinder, makes it clear this isn't a priority. Understandable for margins, but small things like this show how committed the business owners are to speciality coffee.
The second bad omen was an espresso blend being the only offering for drip coffee.
While the seating area is super small, the atmosphere is promising and could be enjoyable when it's not busy.
With a few changes, this business can be the go to place for coffee lovers in Vienna and surrounding areas. Expand speciality offerings, take the time to make them even on weekends (repeat customers will wait), and invest in higher quality grinders and equipment (we come to a coffee shop to try something we can't make at home).
For anyone reading, stick to Cafe Amouri and 29th parallel or Foundation further afield if you're looking for specialty coffee in Vienna until FRAME makes adjustments.
More importantly, if you go for pour overs or the like, the no weekend policy here is dangerous if other coffee shops in our area...
Read moreThe coffee at this place is beyond expectations, and I would give it more than five stars if I could!
Finally, we went to check out this new coffee place in Vienna after hearing good things about it, and as soon as we sipped our coffee, we knew why. The coffee was excellent, and we had never tasted coffee this good before!
The Milky Way coffee was so delicious. Its milk foam was creamy and smooth with a hint of sweetness, and it was easy to drink. We often talk about the acidity of coffee, but this one was perfect. The Pistachio Cream Latte also had a sweet and creamy foam on top, but it had different tastes on its lower layers, and the discovering taste on each layer was delightful. We wanted to indulge ourselves with another sweet dessert and ordered a Croffle (a hybrid of a croissant and waffle), which was already good by itself with rich vanilla ice cream on top. We felt that syrup on it wasn't necessary as it became too sweet for our liking.
Inside, the shop had a minimalist ambiance with coffee merchandise and photographs here and there. Maybe the owner's hobby is photography, as some camera equipment was on the shelves further inside.
Overall, we enjoyed our coffee and look forward to revisiting...
