I'm just going to start out by saying the positive. Their food is good. Their fish quality is great. Their servers are friendly (but busy) and the potential for this place is sky high. My family has been here on a number of occasions. I have brought in tables of 10 in the past. It's a nice little place, and they have some amazing menu items. We are a little disappointed with the place nearly everytime we leave. Whether it's the wait time on food, the items being messed up, or some other little things there's just always a little problem. I've been in the food industry and I completely understand a problem here or there. I'm not sure if I've lost the jasmines lottery or if there's a management problem that should be addressed.
Well today my pregnant wife, son and I went there for some dinner. Our order started out fine. 2 crab salads, miso soup, and some shrimp tempura. I ordered a sashimi app and a crab salad for me and the rest was for my family. My sashimi came out as sushi which wasn't a huge deal. I'm laying off as much rice as possible so I asked for them to fix it. I was given tuna, salmon, some white fish that I couldn't tell exactly what it was and some delicious shrimp. It was all really top quality and delicious fish. Then we get our special roll. The Paradise. It was really tasty, but the salmon was NOT seared and was served raw. When I mentioned something to our server she spoke with the manager (or owner) and he came back to the table and blatantly lied right to my face. I told him that we picked it because it wasn't marked with a * so it was supposed to mean that it wasn't served raw. He said it was seared (which it literally was not. Like it was cold fish) and that it's served like steak and that the * didn't mean raw, but instead meant that it was spicy. Our roll has spicy crab on it and didn't have a *... it obviously wasn't a spicey warning. I can eat raw and that's no problem for me. But my wife is pregnant and is not supposed to eat any raw/rare meat or fish. We picked that item because it wasn't supposed to be raw and instead of apologizing for their mistake the owner/ manager said that the item IS raw and that we should have known she couldn't eat it from the beginning. After spending a few thousands over the last few years this was definitely our last time. It's one thing to mess up but to mess up and lie directly to your customers face. That is bad management.
If this place gets bought out by someone who knows how the industry works I think the place can be one of the...
Read moreThis was my first experience at this restaurant. My wife and I have been trying desperately to find an authentic Thai restaurant. We use a couple of dishes to "gauge" the quality. One of them is Tom Kha Gai. This dish is all too often cheapened either by using cheap coconut milk, or watering it down. This was delicious! (slightly sweet, but quite acceptable). This is also a dish that took me years to learn how to cook as well as any Thai restaurant! Additionally, our waitress, Naly, is from Ubon, the town that I was stationed at 51 years when I was in the Air Force. (Now I can practice my tiny bit of Thai language). I am greatly looking forward to another visit. Next time I've got to try the Panang Nua or Gai. Again, this can be a tricky dish if you don't cook properly, as the sauce should be slightly thick and not watered down. Naly was absolutely a pleasure to talk to and great at making suggestions. We have returned (3 days later) to Jasmine to try the Panang Gai (Chicken). It was excellent (but could have used a slight thickening). The taste was all that I remembered, and enjoyed!!! Absolutely, this is our new "home base" Thai restaurant!! Thanks so much for truly authentic (as I remember) Thai dishes!!
On our most recent visit (2/10) we tried the Larb Gai, which is supposed to be a wrap. The minced chicken was great, but the lettuce was cut into 3/4 " wide strips, hardly enough to make a "wrap" for even a small bite. Naturally, I can't reduce a rating only for a small problem in presentation, but this could have easily been resolved by using Boston bibb lettuce, in which each leaf is cup shaped! Maybe a small change in presentation to make a huge difference in the...
Read moreTLDR: half the food was really good, the other half not so much, really really slow service, and inattentive waitress.
My wife and I went here for the first time today bc our usual, Thai Paradise, dining room was still closed. Here’s a run-down of what we ordered: Lettuce wraps - not traditional in the sense of a minced chicken mixture. Rather very tender chunk chicken and other goodness. These were AWEOME! Specialty sushi roll - don’t remember the name but was spicy tuna on the inside and salmon in the top. Very mediocre. Pad Thai - my wife wasn’t really impressed with the flavor. She said it had an odd flavor that she couldn’t put her finger on and also had very little meat in comparison to my dish. Pad See Ew - I really liked this dish good flavor. I got it medium spicy which the waitress warned was going to be VERY HOT. Not hot at all even after adding the Thai chili and fish sauce condiment. Thankfully brought a bit of scorpion pepper dust with me just in case bc I asked for more Thai chilis and she brought out chili oil which I’m not a fan of.
Regarding service, our waitress was really inattentive. Another waiter actually came by to get us refills after our glasses were setting on the edge of the table empty for quite some time. He also later talked to our server to get our check and a to-go box. Another example, the sushi chef had to ring the order up bell 3 different times before our waitress picked up our appetizer (which she walked past twice).
The restaurant was probably 50% full but the kitchen was crazy slow OR our server messed up putting our order in the system - likely the latter bc the two tables next to us were getting their food...
