To be fair, the food--in my opinion--is pretty good. As far as food + drinks go, this is the best Mexican spot in the area that I've tried. Red and white sauces good and not watered down. Food flavored wonderfully. Good margs. But, unfortunately, tonight was my last night eating here or recommending that anyone else do so, and here's why,,, I don't know his name, but the older man that's always working the bar blew it for me tonight. I don't live far and eat here at least a couple times a month. A while back, while sitting at the bar, I asked him to make me a pina colada marg. Of course, I know that's an unusual combo, but that's what I wanted. Instead of just making it, he proceeded to try to convince me that margarita is not supposed to be made with pina colada mix. My response,,,Says who ? He ended up making the pina colada marg, it was great, and I've ordered the SAME drink several times since then. It's literally the ONLY drink that I order from the bar when I eat here. Well, tonight, I didn't feel like dining in after working 12 hours today, so I ordered takeout over the phone. I requested a "to go" pina colada marg with my order. When I got there, he proceeded to make a frozen pina colada. Once the ice started blending, I asked him if that was my drink bc I always get my margs on the rocks. His response,,,Yes, you asked for a pina colada. My response,,,I actually asked for a pina colada margarita (emphasis on the margarita). He proceeded to, again, tell me that I asked for a "pina colada". At that point, I was done and didn't even want the drink anymore bc, from a customer service viewpoint, it really could've and should've been chalked up as a misunderstanding, but he was more concerned about standing his ground and telling me that I'd asked for a pina colada, which I DIDN'T. And, again, I literally get the SAME drink every time. On top of that, my tacos were soggy when I got home bc they'd already assembled them instead of keeping everything separate for me to assemble myself. I didn't think I needed to ask for "to go" hard tacos to NOT be assembled, under the impression that this is a common sense matter, but, as the saying goes, common sense isn't always as common as...
Read moreLocal Guadalajara flavor found hidden right here in Virginia Beach! When you think Mexican, a few places come to mind. Some better than others but the flavors, in one way or another, are practically the same. Then you find Camino Real, authentic Jalisco, Mexican flavor hidden in the corner shop off Indian River Rd. The food, made with passion. The beer, cold as physics will allow. The tequila, well.. let's just say you get what you pay for and then some. I have planted my flag and claimed my stake in this glorious place as my go-to for authentic Spanish flavor. What was it that was so special to give such a dictation you ask? The Barria tacos... Slow roasted LAMB!! Yes I said it...lamb with cilantro, onions, that amazing cheese and a delicious stock wrapped in a slightly crispy corn tortilla. Served with a green sauce that could go on anything and a bowl of Mexican rice drowning in roasted onions cilantro and that delicious lamb stock as mentioned before. This dish will bring alive your sences and make you question your Mexican restaurant loyalties. Coupled with their homemade salsa and chips with sizeable chunks of onion and cilantro, you have question that this sauce did not come from a jar. Finally, wash it all down with an ice cold Dos Equis in an enormous frosted mug. This combo is sure to have your taste buds singing a Spanish symphony. Don't take my word for it, come try for yourself you will not be...
Read moreI’ve been here before and never had an issue; food & margaritas have always been good. But today was total trash..The waiter was fine. I brought to his attention that the magarita with patron didn’t taste great. it was weak and had a strange bitter taste. They called over who I thought was the bartender, but turned out to be the manager. When I told him my opinion on the drink and asked if I could get a different one with Don Julio he said, “What am I supposed to do with this drink? I’ll still have go charge you full price.” I said, so you want me to pay full price for something that I don’t like at your restaurant? He basically shrugged as if to say “Yeah and I don’t care. I wasn’t there for the food and drinks but to have a nice time with my friend who Ihaven’t seen in 7 years! So, I asked “How about if I keep this drink ‘that I’m not happy with’ can u charge me half price for if. He agreed, but at the end of the day, I drank a drink and paid for a drink I wasn’t happy with, and Camino Real’s manager didn’t care. Lastly, I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail anx it was terrible. So, I’ll never go back to Camino Real and hopefully you’ll follow my lead. I should have took the hint when I saw the place wax empty on a...
