Honoka Teriyaki Express — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Stopped in for the first time today and was very pleased with the experience. I'd highly recommend this place for yummy teriyaki, nice sit down spaces, friendly staff and affordable prices!

Location: When I walked in I found myself in a very well kept dining space. Although my order was to-go due to time, I think it would have been very pleasant to eat in. The tables were clean, the decorations were modern and the noise level was low.

Staff: The young lady at the register greeted me as I entered and was very welcoming; maintaining a warm smile the entire time I was in the building. The folks prepping the food worked surprisingly fast and brought my to-go order to me when they could have just had me grab it from the counter.

Food: I purchased the beef teriyaki and an order of dumplings. The beef teriyaki was cooked very nicely with the veggies being very crisp and the beef being flavorful without the meal drowning in sauce. If anything there was very little sauce - allowing the veggies and rice below the layer of meat to remain fresh and not soggy. Also the portion was huge and could probably feed two people - which is awesome for the price. The dumplings were delightfully soft...

I used to pick up orders from Honoka Express when I was a Door Dash driver. There would be seemingly endless orders and though you can’t go inside (Covid times), the delicious aroma of great food just escapes through the slightly opened door before the plastic bags with good order were given to me to deliver. Now that I can choose to seat myself to eat in, service undoubtedly was fast. I ordered the chicken and shrimp bento box to go. I was leery that the take out portion wouldn’t be the same as that of done in; but I needn’t even worry in the first place. When my order number was called, one staff member said he forgot something. He came back to give me a small paper bag that typically is used for packets of sauces or fortune cookie. He placed the paper bag in the plastic carryout bag. When I got home, the order was piled high. I was happily surprised to see that he gave me 3 more dumplings. Thank you for the generosity, dumplings are my favorite! This is true...

Excellent place for chicken teriyaki in the portion size you get when you order double meat is fantastic. Update 2/1/2021: So apparently they were turning away walk-up orders. They were busy with all of the online and call-in orders that they looked like they couldn’t maintain the pace. Maybe if you’re normally experiencing this, put out a sign in the front so that it’s obvious and to let customers know to order a certain way. Maybe start prep-cooking more chicken before the lunch or dinner rush starts. I get that many businesses are struggling during the pandemic and they’re trying to grab any business they can get. But if your business is doing so well that you can pick and choose what incoming business to keep and turn away others? I guess my business isn’t needed and I won’t be supporting this business further. It’s easy to say hire more staff or just cook more food, but you look like you’re struggling during...
