Ok, so... I've been wanting to try this place, and was excited to see it had opened. I saw that there were some unflattering reviews, but did not let that deter me from my destiny with deliciousness- for I had faith that, while waiting for this place to open, had already been rooted in my month long, growing anticipation of a biscuit sandwich that is also handsome :) So, I just left the Virginia Beach location and I am very disappointed :( The food I was served should be a major source of embarrassment for the crew that works there. Portion size and freshness was a joke... and when I say it was a joke I mean that it was not only old and cold, but was less than half of what a resonable person who also understands that we are in a recession and that things are tight right now for many businesses- would expect to receive... and to fathom that an employee actually put that order together and deemed it acceptable to serve is mind boggling. Most newly opened restaurants will have a honeymoon phase where attention to food quality will be unusually high- resulting in excellent food quality (and perhaps unrealistically high customer expectation)... but, sadly, none of that excellence was found here today... I asked for a refund, and after the employees tried for a few minutes to figure out how to do this for me, one of them finally comes to me to let me know that they voided the transaction, and I may have to wait up to 24 hours to see it credited back to my card. I then asked if I could have a receipt of the refund/void, and the only reply I got was that they couldn't figure out how to print it. I will be checking on that refund, oh yes, I need it all back. Also, its worth noting that the kiosk, after you pay, will prompt you to let them know how you would like to receive your receipt, but if you choose email, there is no way to complete typing in your email adress using the kiosk's keyboard. Dear Handsome Biscuit Va Beach location owner: this kiosk issue as well as food quality control here needs to be addressed asap. Your employees were friendly. No one was rude to me. If it wasn't for that I'd have given a one star review instead of three stars. Please rescue this location, it needs real TLC... if this concept is done right, it could be...
Read moreI visited early on a Friday morning, and much to my surprise, it was empty inside. They had physical menus to help you decide before getting to the tablet. The restaurant looked very clean. I ordered a Bacon Shorty, PB&J biscuit, Bacon Wrap, and Biscuit & Gravy.
Bacon Wrap 8/10 - tater tots, cheddar, bacon, fried egg, tortilla wrap. Very good flavor. A little disappointed in the price considering the size, and I would ha e preferred a little more egg. But still delicious.
Bacon Shorty 9.5/10 - fried egg, cheddar, bacon, biscuit. Amazing flavor! The biscuit is about the size of an average palm, light crunchy exterior with a soft inside (slightly doughy but cooked through). Had a bit darker coloring than I usually prefer, but it didn't taste burnt in any way. The flavor is similar to the sweetness of a Pillsbury croissant without that preservative aftertaste. Bacon was thick and crispy without being brittle. Egg was fried well and seasoned with basic salt and pepper, but it's a classic biscuit, so I didn't want anything fancy. Cheese was real cheddar, so it held its shape despite obvious visual melting. Definitely worth the price and will easily be filling for the average diner.
PB&J 9/10 - I'm not a fan of strawberry preserves on a pb&j but this was delightful. Same biscuit texture, taste, and sizing as the Shorty. Nice hunk of creamy peanut butter in there. Very comforting flavor. It's messy but to be expected. My husband loves strawberry jams, and he was ecstatic about it. Again very much worth the price. Husband works nearby so he's excited to have a nice comfort food close.
Biscuit and gravy N/A - I can't give a rating for this other than a 10/10 for presentation because my husband is saving it for after work. It was placed in the container, and the gravy was separated from the biscuit for transport. That's always good to see because a lot of places just slap them together, and the biscuit gets all soggy. Again, biscuit looks the same as previously stated so I imagine it will go great with the sausage gravy.
All in all, I'd say our breakfast was delicious and I look forward to the...
Read moreThe employee was very helpful and friendly. That's basically the only good thing I can say about this restaurant.
I'm from the deep South and I'm not familiar with the other location that's in Norfolk, but when I saw on their website that they were featured in Southern Living and had won a title among the top four of the South's best biscuits, I had high hopes. I got to the restaurant around 8:30 in the morning on a weekday so they weren't busy at all, there was only one other table that had people, and they already had their food.
I ordered a build your own biscuit sandwich with fried chicken, pickled tomato, bacon, and cheddar cheese, and a side of the hash tots. I also ordered a comeback sauce and ranch on the side.
First of all, the "hash" tots are just tater tots, there's nothing special about them and there's definitely no reason to rename them. They were super greasy but otherwise fine, just your standard tater tot.
The biscuit was burned but also greasy. definitely not light and fluffy at all like a biscuit should be. The chicken was completely over fried and dark in several places, and beyond that it was just flavorless. The cheese wasn't even melted, and the bacon was greasy (surprise 🙄) but also rubbery. The pickled tomatoes were interesting, but the flavor didn't appeal to me personally, but others may enjoy them. I was hoping that the ranch would be house-made since it was clear that they had some other house-made sauces, but it was definitely one of those store-bought brands and not very good. The comeback sauce was good, kind of like a spicier honey mustard.
Overall, just a really disappointing breakfast. I ended up picking off the fried breading and just eating the plain chicken and the tater tots. Like I said, they weren't even busy so there was absolutely no reason that the kitchen should have put out a...
