Surf Rider Birdneck — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Hi, kept seeing your new location as it's near our home. So for my sons 14th Birthday he wanted seafood. I decided to take him to your restaurant.

We went in, felt unwelcome. When we were approached and seated, we were given menus and told someone would be right with us. 15 or so minutes, maybe 20 went by. Other tables welcomed, checked on, even drink orders then for two large groups and drinks served all the while we were ignored. It was disappointing as it was my sons big day to celebrate. He had picked his meal and was so excited. We were patient. Finally he said, "mom, I'm upset, they don't want to help us." He then got the courage to look at a worker who looked back like saying " Hey we are here, help". Nothing! Finally my son said his dinner is ruined and he wanted to leave. As he went ahead to the car, the hostess says, " thanks see you again"... I took pause, with front door open said" just so you know, no one ever came to our table to help us", her mouth dropped open and I said, " thought you should know that". Then we left. It ruined...

Tried this place twice. Not sure why and I don’t want to assume a malicious reason but both times we walked in, we were just stared at by all the 30+ employees that work there before being greeted and sat down.

The first time we went, more long awkward stares until we seen an employee we knew and she sat us down. She wasn’t there the second time. We ended up having a good time after sitting.

Both times we went was like senior citizen hour so maybe we should try going later. This place was giving me a “you aren’t welcome here vibe.”

Food was good. At least our waitress was amazing.

Had a great meal at the newest surfrider location. There was a wait for our party size but after about 15 min the manager on duty was nice enough to put in a drink order for us. My only reason for 3 stars was when I ordered my entree that had two sides- I ordered a salad and green beans. Got the salad first and was about 90% through with it when the server came back and told me the green beans were out and not an option. I picked broccoli and the server told me that “counted as two sides” so I wasn’t allowed to get it since I had gotten the salad. I got nothing because I only wanted veggies. Just a service note- please teach the servers that in that situation, it’s ok to bend the rule for the customer/service.
