I am commenting on an uncommented 5 star review because the owner/account manager asked for a comment.
I do feel like Burger in the Square deserves a 5 star review because over the months that I have eaten here the burgers prove to be superior by far in quality to normal take out food and they are packed surprisingly well to still be warm when we get them home. They are generally consistent in quality.
It is unfortunate that I have yet to dine in, but I think that is perhaps an artifact of the time we are living in.
I am greatly appreciative of the children's menu, although a little sad that there is no children's burger option as we would undoubtedly order it and have our child never eat that as opposed to other things we order for him and he never eats. He does a good job with the grilled cheese most of the time.
I am a little disappointed the Burger in the Square has no calorie information available, which it isn't required to provide and as indeed no restaurants in Roanoke seem to have unless required by law. I understand that this might be a bit of an expense, but I suspect it would be a limited one time expense for many restaurants except those that frequently change their menus.
I left no comment initially because of the immense guilt I felt in preferring Farmburgesa in Vinton (specifically that one, for whatever reason) and being unable to explain why, and further not having eaten from both establishments in the same manner (dine in vs. take out) to be able to be objective in review. I have certainly eaten more frequently at Burger in the Square due to proximity.
The harshest thing I can say is that last night the bacon seemed odd, not bad, but not what seems to be normal for them. A little spicier and chewier than I remember.
Overall the only thing that would slow down how often we dine here are my attempts to diet and feeling like a burger here should be counted between 800-1000 calories on the safe side, even though that seems a...
Read moreBurger on the Square has a convenient location on Brambleton Ave, with some waiting to get back into Brambleton traffic at busy times of the day. I placed a pick-up order by phone, and the order was ready and hot upon my arrival. The chili for the taco salad was outstanding, not too spicy, and very flavorful. The salad items were crisp and fresh. The pulled pork was also delicious, but the "on the side" sweet BBQ sauce was not included. The hush puppies were good, and butter was included. The baked beans were average, with no additions to enhance the flavor out of the can. Very personable and friendly staff, I recommend Burger for pick up or a quick bite. There is ample seating in a pleasant atmosphere for dining. Wheelchair accessible entrance, but I don't know about accessibility in the restrooms. Good place for children or family dining. Prices are reasonable.
1/6/24 Back to Burger in the Square after over a year! Didn't realize the order was the same as before, but it is great for comparison. The ingredients in the taco salad, (lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, cheddar cheese, sour cream and salsa on the side) were very fresh and crisp, and the chili is seasoned well, but not too spicy and very tasty. Hush puppies were pretty basic but enhanced with honey butter! The star of the order were the baked beans. At the last visit, the beans were flat tasting, like just out of the can. These beans were nicely seasoned, rich with beans, onions, peppers, and flavorful seasonings. They were sweet with a tad of BBQ flavor and very good! The pulled pork sandwich was large, on a soft bun, with cole slaw. The surprise was the use of the commercial Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce on the side. I was surprised it was not made in house, but the sweet flavor was perfect for this sandwich. I ordered by phone for pick up, and the order was hot and ready at my arrival. Staff were efficient and friendly, and the order was correct. Overall, it was a very...
Read moreThere are many aspects to how well a business reviews, and that unfortunately means that there are several ways a business may fail in the eyes of a patron. My wife and I went in to grab a late lunch after a long day of running errands. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and made us feel most welcome. We ordered, excited to try the food as we only lived a few mins away and it would be nice to have a good food place close by. While we waited a few folks came in, and the staff recognized most of them, meaning the diner had a pretty good repeat customer rate. We went to our table waiting for our food when I hear an interesting conversation going on in the kitchen. I'll avoid detailed specifics, but it was obvious the conversation was about us, and specifically me. I will be the first one to say the conversation wasn't negative nor had I done/or said something to cause the staff to speak ill of me, however having who you are as a person debated within ear shot is never good.
The front of the house lady came by to check on us, to which I asked if everything was alright in the kitchen as I could hear them discussing something. She said everything was fine and apologized for their loudness. She later took one of the cooks to the back to have a word with him. Was it for the topic of debate or was it for being loud, I don't know. The food was good and the milkshakes were notably good. It is a shame that 1 employee lacked the decorum to know that there is a time and a place for every topic and debating who someone is as a person, a stranger none the less, in front of them is not the appropriate time nor place. We had high hopes, and they were crushed. I can not recommend this restaurant, nor will I ever darken...
