This was one of the worst experiences at a restaurant I have ever had where the owner was openly racist to my mother due to his own poor management skills and lack of organization.

I placed an online order at 2:17 PM and when we went to go pick up the order at 3:00 (email receipt said food would be ready by 2:52), the owner said I never placed the order. Then he went back on his words, and said that I just placed the order. That was not correct and when my mother began telling him that we had proof and confirmation that we placed and paid for the order at 2:17 PM he got agitated and yelled at one of his workers to "come and explain it to them in Spanish" while pointing at my mother. He made an assumption that we were Hispanic based on our skin color and that we could not "speak" English.

I was born in the United States and we are both working professionals that are fluent in English.

He at no point rescinded his statement or offered an apology. Instead, the owner doubled down and told us that next time we should place the order in advance and that they just needed 8 more minutes but "next time it would be 20". Again, I had hard evidence that I placed the order 45 minutes prior to coming in.

We are both natives to Sterling that have lived and been part of this community for over 20 years. We have visited this location a hundred times but, management has taken a complete downturn. The new service is abhorrent and racially tinged and the food quality has likewise suffered tremendously. The Chicken Kabob, Lamb Kabob, Beef kofta and rice all lacked the flavors and seasoning from prior visits.

This is no longer the Darya Kabob that once offered warmth and smiles to its customers but one that only serves to antagonize their long standing patrons.

I will never revisit nor would I recommend this location to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

To summarize:

I placed an order 45 minutes in advance, got yelled at by the new owner, he made a racially insensitive comment then doubled down on it and was served mediocre (at best) food.

Only come here if you enjoy getting verbally abused and being served sub...

DO NOT GO HERE. The food is disgusting. They are stingy about sauce which they serve in a tiny cup and will charge more without telling us it is extra charge. The food does NOT taste fresh, their bread is stale, and our food orders are never correct. AND ON TOP OF IT, I parked in front of the 10 minute parking in front of the restuarant to drop off a package next to the restuarant, I got out of the car and this man who works over in the back rolled his window down and yelled at me saying I was an A**le... drove away and I came out of the store and I saw him walking down toward the restuarant passing by my car and he was staring at me down and repeated himself and insulted me again and again. Thank god I had my boyfriend running behind me to PUT HIM IN HIS PLACE!!!.... come to find out, he works at the restuarant!!! My boyfriend saw that he went in and went to the back kitchen. SHAME ON YOU AND FOR WHO EVER HIRED THIS OLD MAN. HE IS GIVING YOUR RESTUARANT A BAD REPUTATION. I vouched for your food when I could only walk to around the Sterling plaza to get some lunch on my breaks. After today, you have lost 2 customer and I am reporting the restuarant that your employee has verbally assaulted a customer.. And for what? I am guessing because I parked in the 10 minute zone which is also a combination reservation parking for the restuarant employees and he wanted to park there..? I did not even take 2 minutes and I came back to encounter this scary man looking like he was about to harm me!! Whatever reason this man had to go ahead and ruin my good day and speak to a woman like that!!!... Shame on you and the whole restuarant. I have a video of the whole inscident of this man verbally assulting me and my boyfriend. I am making sure everyone I know does NOT comes to this restuarant. I am more in favor of the Rice&Kabob on the other side of the Sterling plaza next to the Pollo Inti and Party City.

**I posted a picture of the shameless man on Google review and on Yelp of him yelling at my boyfriend and opening the door to going inside. Watch out for this guy. Seems like he is not right...

Today my husband and I went to eat at Darya Kabob in Sterling. The food was great as always, it’s one of our favorite places to eat at. But unfortunately it was over shadowed by the insults flying out of their kitchen. When arrived a Hispanic girl took our order and eventually brought us our food. But not even five minutes into our meal we heard yelling in the kitchen, to where a middle eastern man was calling her a P*. The B word in spanish. It made us upset to hear this as I am a Hispanic female myself. Towards the end of my meal I saw the girl and approached her and asked her what had happened. She mentioned that the the owners brother who is a manager named Ali had gotten mad at her for not putting a soup order and the customer had gotten mad. Apparently this was enough to call her out of her name many times and heard very loudly throughout the restaurant. I’m angry and frustrated that these people feel they can do this and get away with treating their employees this way because they own the establishment. I will be calling the establishment to speak with the other owner/brother as he was not there. There was also another gentleman who heard the insults and left his contact information with her to give the other owner to say what he heard. She did mention it was not the first time it...

Hello, I would like to complain about this restaurant Darya Kabob located in Sterling, VA. Today I went to eat and there was a piece of plastic in the salad they gave me. When I picked it up, it was this big. I couldn't believe the lack of hygiene. In addition, there was a cockroach on the table in a corner. It's shameful that this happens since I see that they lack not only hygiene standards but also service. I also felt discriminated against since 50 minutes passed and they only brought me the salad and bread. When other customers arrived much later, they were given their food. The waitress was super hateful. Besides the food being dirty, it seems that they are racist. How sad these events are. Oh, and I have pictures of what I'm saying.

Man!!! Where do I start? My husband and I travel for work. We were hangry. We meaning me..lol. We had been driving around looking for a good place to eat. Google suggested this place. The restaurant is clean. The staff was friendly. The FOOD!!! The food smelled so good walking through the door. The lamb chops were tender and flavorful. The chick peas were so dang good!! The lentil soup was... man.. add the green sauce for some kick. The hummus was smooth and delicious. The bread deserves a standing ovation. The rice was fluffy, flavorful and cooked just right. Now! Let's talk about the fish. I'm going back just for the fish. I would have smacked my momma for the fish. 10/10 would recommend. We were dancing at the table.

The food costs around $40 to $50 for two people, but they serve it on disposable plates! The design is terrible! It lacks any real culture. There are some Persian posters (like Hafez...) on the wall, but when we asked, “Excuse me, is this a Persian restaurant?” they got offended! Overall, the cultural vibe is weak — the atmosphere doesn’t match the price, and the food wasn’t tasty at all. I ordered Qabili Palaw to see what it was like, but the meat smelled strongly of lamb, was not cooked well, and the rice had been taken off the heat too early — it wasn’t properly steamed. I couldn’t eat it and just left it as it was. All in all, I don’t recommend it.
