I was not pleased this time.. I was with the party who was recently discriminated against.
Went to Osaka Japanese Restaurant, food was not great, customer service was poor, and also discriminated against. Food was a little over priced, and the only hibachi I have visited in the U.S. that charges extra for the rice to be cooked on the hibachi. We had a reservation for 7:30pm Arrived at 6:55pm and checkin with the hostess. The hostess confirmed that our reservation was at 7:30, and further stated that they are still seating their 7pm reservation. The hosted said to take a seat, and we would be called.
We sat and waited. At 7:28 pm in walks a party of seven people (5 females wearing black shirts and jeans, along with two males). We overheard them tell the hostess they have an 8pm reservation. The waiter seats them almost right away. I look at my watch it is 7:30. I asked the hostess if she forgot about us, and she responded with my name “E….” Right, and yes, she yes we will seat you soon. About 10 mins later we were seated. We were seated next to table with the party of 7 that we mentioned previously, please note that this party was Caucasian, and we are a minority family. After we were seated customer service was not great but we let it go. Food portions were small. We ordered adult beverages which came out pretty late, in fact while we were eating. When we were finished eating we were finishing adult beverages. While we were sipping our drinks, the hostess comes by and ask she could have our table, and that have more guests (we had been seated for less than an hour). We politely said yes, and speedily finished our drinks. We we were expecting the hostess to ask the same of the party sitting next to us, considering that they were finished with their meals, and were seated prior to us. We stood around for a few additional minutes and the hostess had left and did not ask the other party for their table. Even as we were walking out the door the hostess did not bother to ask them. It was very clear that we were likely treated unfairly due to race. The hostess did not care that we were finishing adult beverages. Nor did she care or consider safety, and all us to wait for the alcohol to dissipate from our system. There was no place in the waiting area to wait, so we returned to our vehicles and sat for a little bit to let the alcohol wear off. Rudest, worst customer service, will not be be returning to this restaurant . This is the DMV one of the most diverse areas in the US. Please do a better job with concealing...
Read moreOur reservation was for 7:30 PM. We arrived early at 6:55 PM and checked in with the hostess, who confirmed our reservation but mentioned they were still seating their 7:00 PM reservations. She asked us to wait and said we’d be called soon.
At 7:28 PM, a party of seven walked in, and we overheard them say they had an 8:00 PM reservation. Yet, they were seated almost immediately, while we continued waiting. When I checked with the hostess at 7:30, she acknowledged us by name and assured us we’d be seated soon. Finally, about 10 minutes later, we were shown to our table — right next to the party of seven, who were Caucasian, while our family is a minority.
Service after being seated was below par, but we tried to overlook it. Food portions were small, and our drinks took so long to arrive that they didn’t come until we were already eating. As we were finishing our meals, still sipping our drinks, the hostess came over and asked if we could vacate the table because they needed it for other guests — though we’d been seated for less than an hour. We agreed and quickly finished our drinks. Oddly, she didn’t ask the same of the party next to us, who had finished their meals before we did and were seated earlier. Even as we left, they weren’t asked to move.
This experience left us feeling that our treatment may have been influenced by race.
Overall, this was the rudest and worst service we’ve experienced. In such a diverse area as the DMV, this restaurant should do better at concealing or, better yet, eliminating any racial bias in its service. We will not...
Read moreGreat place to take the family for some hibachi. The kids' menu is very reasonable, and the same portion size as the adult meals which cost twice as much. Drinks are not included with the kid's meals. I knew my six year old wouldn't even finish half of his meal, so rather than waste food, I just got a sushi roll and picked at his rice and veggies. I always feel guilty ordering for my picky eater, knowing full well I'll be the one eating most of it. I'm sure there's a restaurant industry term for parents like me. Usually I drink the price equivalent of an adult entree in beer anyway, but since they no longer have beer on draft here, that wasn't happening. The little guy did scarf down the beef like a champ. All three of the boys loved the filet mignon kid's entree. My wife had the shrimp meal which was good. The side options were soup or salad, and we ended up with quite a surplus of both. They even gave me a soup and salad with my roll, which certainly didn't include it.
Our chef did the usual routine: volcanos, tossing eggs, shrimp toss etc. I've seen better. I'd give him an 8. The kids loved every second of his performance.
It's hibachi. It's predictable. They serve tasty food at a fair price, with a side of showmanship. The sushi was better than I expected. We went home with about 3 lbs of leftovers. Our tab for two adults and four kids (no alcohol) was $105 + tip, which seemed a little steep given the fact that I didn't have a proper entree. It's not going to become our new regular spot, but...
