I had such high hopes for this place.
Never mind that whoever picked up the phone for our to go order seemed unable to communicate effectively. We'll even disregard the back and forth bickering that occurred inside of the shop amongst the staff when they found out that whoever had taken our phone order had done incorrectly. And we'll also put aside the fact that I picked up an additional $30 worth of bakery as I waited for them to find my order. In total, the cost was $63.56.
Eventually, I was asked for my card, to make payment. Not a problem. I added a 15% tip and gave them my card. The payment was successful and I received an immediate notification from my bank regarding the successful charge.
Then, a few minutes, the young girl who had me pay wanted me to pay again due to another fault from their side. At that point my patience had run out.
I would not recommend this place for their lack of basic customer service and a clear inability to get a simple phone order correct.
Regarding the food? They still got the order wrong as two of the items, the Chicken Parisienne and the Tomato Basil Pasta was missing. By the time we reached the house, we decided to throw everything away except the bakery desserts as we didn't have any confidence in trusting that the cooked food wasn't tampered with. I will never spend another dime...
Read moreWe are just starting to go out again after the pandemic. La Madeline was our favorite breakfast place. We went about three weeks ago. At the station where you get condiments, coffee and drinks, there was no American coffee. We got the French roast, which was not all that hot. We told the person who brought us our food that they were out of American coffee. When we went back for a refill, the French roast was gone all together and we filled up our cups with the American roast. It was undrinkable! It tasted like lukewarm dishwater. We usually give a restaurant at least two tries before we take it off our list. We went this morning and we were even more disappointed. The condiment station had fruit flies flying around the utensils and the bread and jelly. The ice on the drink machine did not work. The handle For it was laying loose on the machine. It wasn’t clean. We both got the American breakfast. The sausage was cold. It was not even room temperature. It was like it came out of the refrigerator. It was cold. The croissant is about half the size that it used to be. It had a very dense texture and didn’t even taste like a croissant. On my previous visit, I had the breakfast sandwich. That was the size and airiness of the croissant I...
Read moreThis is my first time to Springfield and I wanted to try something different for breakfast, and this cafe seemed like the perfect spot. A light breakfast and good reviews. However, I wholeheartedly regret my decision. When I first came in, the woman at the register was unfriendly and seemed irritated that I had come in. I'm unfamiliar with the breakfast menu and layout of the cafe, so I asked her a few questions about my options for breakfast. Her answers were short and vague. Maybe she's new, I'm not sure. I accidently walked up the to carry out counter, instead of walking down to the "for here" register. That's my fault, and a lack of observation on my part. But while taking my order, she asked me if I'd like my order for here or to go, to which I responded for here. I received my order quickly, but not only was it in to go containers (partially my fault), I had requested to get my breakfast croissant on French bread instead, for which I was charged extra. It came on a croissant, which at this point I wasn't even surprised this was wrong as well. The only reason I haven't given this cafe 1 star is the beautifully decorated interior and the fact that the food is...
